A Ghanaian international, Samuel Johnson signed for Fenerbahce SK in 1999. He made
30 appearances, scoring five goals, in the title-winning campaign of 2000/01. Although a defender, he can also
play in midfield and has been known to figure up front. The versatile performer has represented Ghana at four African
Nations Cup finals but suffered a miserable time at the 1994 tournament after breaking his leg. The injury was
to blight his career for nearly two years. Johnson is much-travelled having played for Kalamata FC in Greece and
RSC Anderlecht in Belgium, before heading to Turkey and Gaziantepspor. A cult figure, not least because of his
impressive displays, it did not take Fenerbahce SK long to snap him up. He played 26 games to help his team to
the title in 2000/01, and scored eight goals along the way. |
