| Four years in Italy with Atalanta BC and Juventus FC, stood Zoran Mirkovic in good
stead for Turkish football. He signed for Fenerbahçe SK in July 2000 and established himself as a first-team
regular straight away. The Yugoslav’s career started with FK Rad in 1990 and he spent three years there before
moving to Belgrade rivals FK Partizan. He spent another three years with them before heading to Atalanta. Impressive
displays in two seasons in Bergamo saw Juventus come calling for Mirkovic’s services in 1998. He represented the
club in the UEFA Champions League campaign of 1998/99 but played only a handful of games in the following season.
Mirkovic represented his country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, playing two games but missed out on EURO 2000. Mirkovic
was left out of the squad because he was suspended for all three first-round games. He had been sent off in the
final qualifying match against Croatia. Mirkovic is a no-nonsense player who can adapt to whatever demands are
required of him. His main attributes are his physical presence and speed on the ball. |
