Perhaps the leading light in the Fenerbahce SK line-up, Revivo scored the opening
goal in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round 2-1 aggregate victory over Rangers FC in 2001/02. Capped more
than 50 times for Israel, the inspirational midfielder moved to Turkey in 2000 after 124 games for RC Celta de
Vigo. During that time, he scored 23 goals. His career began in his native Israel and saw him play for Bnei Yhoda
Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa. He was Israel’s top scorer and footballer of the year in 1994/95.
His haul that year was astonishing, 26 goals in 28 games and it was no surprise when Celta came calling at the
end of the year. He left Spain after four fairly modest seasons, particularly in terms of goalscoring. Revivo quickly
found his feet with Fenerbahce. His first season saw him score 14 goals in 29 matches as the Istanbul club won
the league title. The 2001/02 domestic campaign began in similar fashion. There was a hat-trick on the opening
day against Samsunspor before that crucial goal against Rangers. Boasting the rare ability to unlock defences with
one piece of magic or a burst of pace, Revivo is unsurprisingly revered by the Fenerbahce fans. He has been hailed
him the greatest Israeli footballer of all time, and is seen as a key figure if his country is to establish itself
among Europe’s elite nations. |
