A short play: two or three characters debating whether they are characters in a play.
Example--one character objects, saying that if they were characters in a play, they'd see the audience, the props, curtains, etc.
Another character argues that the actors see these things, but the characters do not.
Perhaps some discussion of "What if we don't even have actors playing us at all? What if we're just a script of a play?"
Setting: 1920s New England.
Themes: Norse mythology, surreal horror.
Concept: An amateur vaudeville troupe puts on a play of Norse mythology (Wagner's Ring cycle, perhaps?) which gradually becomes all too real. Think The King in Yellow plus Ragnarok plus Jumanji.
Maybe the gods themselves (incognito of course) are in the audience.
The actors, of course, don't realize what's going on, except perhaps two or three later in the play.
TARMACKIA
Locations
Lopez Brothers Taqueria--the chorizo is pumped fresh from the well, and tortillas fall from the sky every morning.
Magical Ozma's Magical Storage--a storage facility contained in an infinite pocket universe, accessible through any elevator if you have the magical key given to all renters. Store it at MOMS!
The Sea of Pages--every page of every book ever written is in this mess somewhere, but they're all shuffled together randomly. The Binders' Brotherhood, based in a monastery on the coast, uses powerful magic to seek out matching pages and bind them together, but it's slow and difficult work. Look out for storms.
The Junkyard--mechanical devices, mostly vehicles, fall from the sky at irregular intervals. Need a spare part? You can find anything from a bicycle to a battleship here, although protective gear is recommended.
