FennecTheFox's Strategy Guide
Now, if the Terran attacked and wasted his troops like the Terran in those screen shots, you can press an offensive and sometimes overtake, and win the game right then and there. They will most likely have a Tank out by the time you reach their choke however. Most Terran's won't play that horrible though. They'll pull back slightly out of range from your creep, and wait for you to move out with your troops. When you do, they will stim, and individually target each Lurker to kill them faster. You can avoid losing Lurkers by dancing them and then burrowing them as shown below. It only takes a second for things to happen. As soon as you see the Terran stim his Marines and shoot at your Lurkers, deselect the damaged Lurker and run it to the back of the pack as fast as you can, and hit "u" as soon as you do. This will burrow the Lurkers and none of them will die. If he hasn't done a good job of microing his Marines he will most likely lose a quarter or even all of them. If the Terran is doing a good job and is delaying your progression to his base he is probably expanding to his natural, or trying to buy time for his Tanks to reach your expansion. As soon as you have pushed out of your base with the Lurkers, send a Drone to an expand that has Vespene, and proceed to morph a Hatchery. You need to stay ahead of the Terran in resource count. Morph two Evolution chambers and begin your Hydra upgrades. If you cannot afford both - research in this order. Attack first, then Carapace. I would like to take the time to discuss unit control vs Terran. Terran is the most critical race to use flank attacks vs. It's utmost important that you use flank attacks. If you run your units at the Terran head on, you will lose horribly, unless you're totally outproducing the Terran. Make sure you have your units hotkeyed when attacking, or you will lose horribly most of the time. I usually set my Hatcheries from 5-0 and units from 1-4. When I produce more than 4 control groups worth of units I use from 5 onwards to group the units. I will have to click back to my Hatcheries in order to produce, or I can use the top row of function keys. You can shift click 4 different areas of the map to your function keys. This is a quick method of getting around rather than clicking every where on the minimap. It's a lot more practical. Scouting is obviously important when you set up for a flank attack. Try to enage the Terran as he/she is progressing accross the map with their units. Their units will be more strung out. It is most often foolish to attack a Terran when their Tanks are sieged and their units stationary. When you use Hydra/Lurkers together, try to attack head on with the Hydras, and run the Lurkers at the Terran forces side on... or better yet, from behind. Burrow the Lurkers. If the Terran player tries to pull back the Lurkers will shread him/her. Make sure the Hydras engage the Terran forces first instead, so they draw they soak up all of the damage.. If the Terran tries to micro to kill the Lurkers, the Hydras will score free hits, and if you're fast enough you can micro some of the Lurkers to avoid pointless casualties. If you attack with the Hydras in front, and Lurkers positioned behind, the Lurkers will have a hard time reaching the attacking forces. The Terran player will move his units back out of range from the Lurkers and concentrate on killing your Hydras. If your Lurkers are placed in front, and the Hydras are stacked behind, the Terran player will most often (if he's fast) Shift click the majority of the Lurkers and they'll all die very quickly, and all you'll be left with are Hydras, which will die horribly to the Marines/Medics alone. Screen Shots on the next page demonstrate this attack perfectly. |
