Demons by bonnejeanne & vonceia

Part One

Duo's demons watched him while he slept.

At one time, this had been a primary period for having a little fun with the boy from L2. In sleep, as he wandered in his nightmares, they could watch him toss and turn, induce cold sweats or night terrors, and laugh at the wild faces and strange cries he'd make.

Now it was hardly worth the effort.

For one thing, he no longer slept alone.

This in and of itself had rarely slowed down the demons' playtime in the past. In fact Duo, waking with a scream, scaring some other hapless human with his wild, wide-eyed looks, amazing hair tossed about him and elfin face suddenly turned wicked with terror or rage... that was extremely entertaining.

The problem was - this human.

When Duo slept with Heero Yuy, there wasn't much point.

If Duo woke screaming, the Japanese boy simply held him, calmed him, no matter what Duo looked or sounded like, it never fazed the stoic pilot. If he tossed and moaned with nightmares, Heero woke, and kissed him, drawing him even in sleep back to semblance of a serenity the violet-eyed boy had never known. And his presence alone - the warmth of his body, the inaudible sound of his heartbeat close by, the scent of him imperceptible in the air - these things seemed almost to proof Duo against all but the most extreme of disturbances.

It was damned frustrating. *Damned* frustrating. That thought caused a snicker to move through the ranks.

'We're getting soft,' one demon mentioned mournfully.

'Yeah but the sex is fun to watch,' another answered. To that they all agreed.

On this night, however, they watched with a sense of something... a disturbance coming. Deep, deep inside the unbelievably complex layers of Duo's psyche, something shifted. In his sleep, he frowned. One hand moved, rubbing the inside of the opposite upper arm.

'Ah,' Astaroth remarked. Lesser demons nodded sagely. With such a tiny clue, they who knew him most intimately, Heero Yuy be damned, pinpointed the edge of the first ripple. The unanswered message on his laptop was nagging at him. Might be something... might be nothing. Might be fun to come....

Duo woke in the morning feeling... annoyed for no reason. He looked down at his sleeping lover, and the annoyance all but evaporated right there. God he was beautiful, Duo thought, gazing at the smooth face, the dark lashes laying like soft crescents across his cheeks, exquisitely shaped mouth frowning ever so slightly. Duo loved that unconscious sleeping frown. He knew he shouldn't - he should wish for his love to be smiling in his sleep, never troubled. But the tiny frown meant so much to him. It represented everything about Heero that he loved. The well-hidden heart, deep beyond measure, masked by the ruthlessly trained demeanor. The pain, death and guilt they shared. The troubled knowledge and the tainted innocence that had brought them together. Duo bent to kiss that beautiful frown and stopped.

Let him sleep.

Silently, with the stealth bred into his being, Duo extracted himself from the bed. Getting up, the tiny blink of the unanswered message on his neglected laptop caught his eye and he scowled ferociously. Duo's scowl was nothing for the faint of heart. His usually jovial expression became threatening and wicked. There was no one to see it.

Pulling on clothes silently, he let himself out of the small apartment and took a walk. Several blocks out of the neighborhood, he broke into a small computer shop and used their equipment to make a call.

The face that looked back at him was capped in the thickest mop of grey hair, parting around the longest pointed nose.

"Quit buggin' me, Prof," Duo said without preamble.

The scientist looked back with a familiar too-perceptive expression.

"I'm not 'bugging' you, boy," he said. "I sent you a single message. To ask you a simple question."

"Yeah what?" Duo sounded like a sullen child.

Prof G heard the tone and reserved it for analyzing. He really hadn't expected to find the boy still troubled. It had seemed as if he had finally found a life that held some contentment. However, knowing a great deal more about the young man than almost anyone else, G considered the alternatives.

"Have you gone off your medication?"

Duo snarled before he could stop himself. However even he realized such a reaction was damning. He took a breath, and suddenly his face took on a more familiar slight grin.

"Gone off... come on, Prof. I haven't been *on* that stuff in... nearly a year. I don't need it any more," Duo said, keeping his voice light.

G shook his head. The 'cheerful' Duo meant it was back to playing word games. "Don't play stupid," he said, the acerbic tone quite normal for him. "The last implant I gave you had a 12 month lifespan. It would have been fully absorbed no less than two to three months ago."

Duo shrugged. "Whatever. I told you, I don't need it any more."

Prof G contemplated Duo for a moment. Then he nodded. "Perhaps not. Very well. I simply wanted to ask. As long as you are not experiencing any side-effects, hallucinations, episodes..."

Duo managed a grin that almost reached his eyes. "No more than usual, Prof, no more than usual. It's such fun to be me."

G concealed his concern much as he'd concealed his slowly dawning affection for the unsinkable street brat. "Fine. I won't 'bother' you again. You have my number."

"And disturb your well-earned retirement?" Duo quipped. Privately he thought, I sure hope Alfa is keeping tabs on you guys.

"As you say," Prof G returned, as always, unfazed and unamused.

The contact went dead. Duo wiped the call from the machine he was using and slipped out the way he'd gotten in. He had the walk home to stop sweating and figure out some way to keep his lover from sensing the disturbance. Heero had an uncanny knack for that. But Duo didn't want him asking questions. There was no point.

The soft sound of the door closing, woke Heero up. His eyes blinked open and his hands immediately reached out for the braided one. Finding only the rapidly cooling spot on the bed next to him, Heero sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. His eyes swept the room, seeing nothing out of the ordinary. Two laptop computers, various pieces of electronic equipment, Duo's clothing and Heero's black box. 'Something's wrong,' he thought.

Blinking some more, Heero swung his feet over the side of the bed and stood. He swayed a little, then moved to the bathroom to relieve himself. Half expecting to find Duo there, he frowned as his feet touched the cold tile. Lifting the lid, he attempted to reason it out. Missions were out, the war was over. They had enough food. Well, maybe enough. Appointment? Who with?

Sighing deeply, Heero finished up and washed his hands and face. Deciding that perhaps the problem was in his court, and that maybe Duo needed some time to himself, he moved to the kitchen. Placing his hand on the pantry door, he suddenly stopped in mid-gesture and froze for several seconds. That feeling, the soldier's sixth sense, washed over him once again, setting off his internal alarms. The frown on his face deepened. 'Something's wrong,' he thought again. First of all, Duo wouldn't leave in the without saying something. It had been discussed. Out of sight equals worry, equals Heero plus ballistic. See Alfa incident. The frown deepened impossibly again, moving into the full scowl range. 'What's wrong?' he thought.

Shaking his head, Heero slowly sank into a nearby chair as he felt the stillness of the apartment close in around him. Two full seconds he was sitting at Duo's laptop, watching the small blinking message light blinking on and off.

"Hn," he remarked, as he read the message, his fists balling.

Heero hit a few buttons on the laptop and waited to see who showed up.

"I didn't expect to..." Prof G said, then stopped.

"Hn," Heero remarked, looking at the familiar face.

"Bad idea, 01," G said. "He'll be walking in the door any minute. We can talk later."

Then the connection dropped.

Heero sighed deeply, then stood up. He went to the front door and leaned against the wall.

The doorknob turned silently and the door opened.

Duo looked around, saw Heero a few inches away and jumped like a cat.

"K'SO!" he yelled, then leaned against the door holding his chest. "Heart... attack..."

Heero's hand flattened against the door, slamming it shut. The next second, he had Duo pressed against the wall, looking into the violet eyes from half an inch away. For a moment, he just breathed hard, fighting for control and not trusting his words. His face held that deadly impassive look and the rise and fall of his chest was the only thing that betrayed the rapid rate his heart was thumping.

Duo blinked up at his lover with wide violet eyes that seemed to take up most of his face. "Er.... something.... wrong? Besides you deciding to jumpstart my cardiovascular system just now I mean..."

Cobalt blue eyes blinked once, then twice as Heero tried to frame an appropriate answer. He took a very deep breath, forcing his body to relax. He looked up at Duo again, this time there was a bit of softness to the gaze. "Where'd you go?" he managed.

The violet eyes flashed with an unmistakable guilty start. Then they were hidden as Duo looked at the ground for a second. "Um...." he looked up, trying to grin. "Just out... took a walk... I... guess I shoulda left a note... 'm sorry Heero..."

Heero looked back at Duo with eyes that seemed to try and penetrate his soul. He remembered the short message from the old man, then forced his body to cool down more.

Duo watched his lover and his grin faded. "I went to make a call. I... didn't want to wake you up," he said. Then quickly, "...because I didn't want you to hear it. Stupid. I'm sorry, Hee-chan. I'll tell you."

Heero swallowed hard, feeling a great deal more relieved than he looked. Something was definitely up, but Duo had given him enough to settle the nerves in his taut body. He reached up, sliding his hands around Duo's head and pulled him in close for a rough kiss. Parting Duo's mouth with his own, Heero slid his tongue deeply into Duo's mouth, coaxing and feeding the braided pilot until they were both breathless.

Duo melted back against the wall, feeling all his own tensions turn into warm runny shivers. There was nothing quite like being scared out of your skin, then kissed hard by the most dangerous man in the universe... not that he, Duo wasn't up there in rank as far as dangerous went. He made no attempt to resist the heat, responding instantly, fully. It took a minute of gasping, to realize he was looking into cobalt blue eyes and their mouths weren't joined any more.

"Uh..." he said brilliantly. "Yeah.... I... dunno if that was hello, goodbye, shut up, baka, or omae o korosu, and I don't think I care...."

Heero tilted his head, looking at Duo. His fingers dropped to Duo's pants, unfastening them with lightening speed. He then reached inside, curling his fingers around Duo's flesh. "Ai shiteru," Heero said, softly. Leaning forward, he captured Duo's mouth with his again. The kiss was a bit softer, but nonetheless intense. Closing his eyes completely, Heero stroked Duo slowly.

"Ohhhhh," Duo moaned, undone by the words, as well as the sudden intimate touch. His flesh responded quickly and obediently, becoming hard and achy in Heero's strong grip. His body moved, dancing a little with the caress, as Duo's arms wrapped around Heero's neck. He sobbed a little into Heero's mouth. During the walk back to the apartment he'd gotten very fully wound up but every trace of that was gone, drowned in a flood of response and desire. The assault was more than he could handle... it was his dream.

"H-heero..." he gasped, unable to select any other word that had any meaning. Gazing into those deep blue eyes so close, his held surrender, desire, helpless longing.

Heero's arm circled around Duo's waist. He felt his own body, tight and aching in response. He kissed Duo's lips briefly, still stroking the braided pilot. "Duo," he breathed against Duo's ear. Moving, he guided Duo back to the bedroom and the bed. Once there, Heero slid his hands into Duo's pants, sliding them down and off. He removed the rest of Duo's clothes in an instant, then leaned him back against the bed. Stripping quickly, he joined Duo on the bed, lying on top of him, pressing Duo against the bed protectively with his body.

Duo slid his arms Heero's body, looking up. His lover was like a force of nature... moving without speaking, changing things in his path. Duo leaned up and kissed the smooth, lightly tanned neck above him. His hands traveled up and down Heero's smooth back, dancing over muscle and flesh. "Koibito," Duo whispered.

Heero felt the hands on his back bring about an immediate response in his groin. His hips moved against Duo, his hardened flesh finding its corresponding mate and rubbing along its length. Perspiration coated the length of Heero and Duo's combined bodies, as Heero bent down and closed his mouth over the faint pulse at Duo's neck. He licked and tasted his lover's warm, salty flesh moving his tongue in one long continuous movement up and down, Duo's neck. Heero lost himself in Duo as he ached and squirmed against the braided pilot's body from above. There were no words for what Heero was feeling, the feelings could only be expressed through touch.

Moaning, Duo arched his back and tilted his head to expose more of his skin. He squirmed below as Heero squirmed above, the combined movements rubbing them against each other deliciously. Unconsciously, Duo's hands kneaded Heero's flesh like a cat. His squirm began to acquire a definite rhythm, that went with his panting breaths.

Heero moved his knee up slightly to part Duo's legs. Reaching down between them, he took Duo's shaft, unable to resist touching him. He felt the perspiration mixed with the natural lubricant of Duo's body coat his fingers as he stroked him a couple of times. He repeated the same action on himself, then slid the wet fingers down and into the small entrance, feeling Duo's body grip and hold him tightly. Heero moved his hand in Duo's body slowly at first, then faster and harder, his hand giving his braided lover a preview of what was to come.

"Heero!" Duo cried, his voice spiraling with need. He lifted his hips, rocking as he tried to push against those invading fingers, feeling the wash of pleasure come each time they impacted that special place inside him. Violet eyes shimmered with moisture, and Duo clutched Heero's body, silently begging. His lover would know what he wanted, what he needed.

Hearing his name on Duo's lips, Heero felt his body ache and shiver with need. Moving his hand away, he lowered his body, guiding himself inside of Duo. He growled feeling the maddening tightness take his aching flesh, surrounding and holding him tightly. Panting, he looked down at Duo then kissed him hard. His hips thrust forward hard, then moved back to thrust again as he silently apologized for the pain he knew he was causing, but could not help.

Any pain or discomfort Duo felt was brief, and quickly replaced by need and pleasure. His body knew the feeling of his lover now, and adjusted quickly, even with the very little lubricant from their own secretions. Secretly, Duo sometimes liked that little bit of discomfort... his lover was usually so careful, considerate, but this urgency thrilled him, bringing echoes of their first time together, fugitives in hiding, in conditions little better than the cells they'd escaped from. Eagerly Duo lifted his hips again to meet the impact, shuddering at the pleasure that resulted.

Heero felt his body move almost separate from his mind's ability to keep up. Letting Duo's mouth go, he reached under the braided boy and pulled his legs up a little higher, giving his body the best access and most contact. It felt as though the fate of his soul depended on plunging into his lover's body. The energy they were making together seemed to Heero as the binding force of the universe at that time. Grinding his teeth, he moved faster and harder into Duo, hitting the pleasure center in Duo's body over and over with precise and efficient moves. He knew no other way. Heero had been unsettled by the morning's events in ways that even he did not understand. He would never admit to the fear he felt, or the rage both at himself and at Duo. He would probably never admit to the relief he felt at seeing Duo whole and alive, either, but his body expressed all of it as he danced inside of the one who was rapidly becoming his other half, his soul mate.

Duo cried out, surrendering completely to what his lover was doing to him. The precision and power of Heero's cock penetrating him pushed him to the edge of mindlessness and over and his back arched suddenly as he was hit with a climax that wiped him clean and took his soul. He didn't know that his fingers were gripping Heero's back hard enough to leave bruises, he knew nothing but pleasure and the presence of the one who brought it, above him, inside him, around him, shuddering as he cried.

Heero heard Duo cries and felt his surrender. Both moved through his own body like a tidal wave. The next moment, he tensed and gave up his precious essence deep inside Duo. Heero felt his body release with great shudders, then slowly melt and mold itself to Duo's body beneath him. For a few moments, he could only lay his head down against Duo's shoulder and count the number of breaths they shared.

Duo lay trembling slightly, feeling them both still. He was limp from his toes to the top of his head and the end of his chestnut braid. A slight smile curved his mouth unbidden, as that strange sense of... of peace, yes, and contentment, stole through him in the aftermath. Heero brought this feeling into him. He only knew a very few other things that could bring something like it and none of them were this complete, or this... holy. Energy returned slowly, and with the first of it, he gently stroked the strong shoulder and soft, thick hair resting against him.

Heero felt Duo's magical fingers touch him and sighed softly as he felt his own energy slowly return. He felt himself soften and slip from Duo's body with some regret. Moistening his dry lips with his tongue, he leaned his head down and kissed Duo's strong shoulder. "I hurt you?" he said, quietly.

Duo smiled brilliantly. "Not to speak of," he said softly. Then the smile turned slightly wicked. "Only enough to remind me... and that memory, I like."

"Hn," Heero remarked. Then, "What memory?" he asked.

Duo reach up, brushing the wild locks of hair back so he could watch them fall down again. "Our first," he said simply. "It wasn't smooth, but god it was hot." He reached up to kiss Heero's chin.

Heero moved his head and captured Duo's mouth. The kiss was lingering and melting but brief. When he lifted his head, Duo could see the slight smile that curved his mouth up at the corners. "Yes," he said, simply, cobalt blue eyes twinkling with the memory.

Gazing at that slight smile, Duo sighed. I'm such an asshole sometimes, he thought, admitting to himself what a bonehead move sneaking out that morning had been.

"So, I guess you're not finished with me, ne?" Heero said, his eyes scanning and recording each and every inch of Duo's heart-shaped face.

"Finished?" Duo murmured, tracing Heero's cheek with loving fingers.

Then his brows drew together. "You... thought I left?" he said slowly, his voice still thick and husky.

Heero shrugged a little, his eyes watching every movement Duo made.

The violet eyes seemed to shimmer. Blinking, Duo grabbed the other boy around the neck and pulled him tightly against his body. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "Oh Heero... I shoulda known..."

Heero closed his eyes, breathing in Duo's scent as he lay against Duo's body. He reached up placing his fingers over Duo's lips. Leaning forward, he kissed Duo's chest in mute declaration that seemed to say, 'It's ok.' "Ai shiteru," he whispered.

Duo made a sound somewhere between a laugh and a sob. "Stop that!" he said. "I won't ever do that - leave. I swear, Heero. I was just being stupid..."

Heero leaned up. He kissed Duo deeply, then looked down at him. "Baka," he said, his features spreading into a rare smile.

Duo sighed and nodded. "Bigtime," he muttered. "How could I even think about leaving when I got this," he said, kissing Heero tenderly.

Heero growled low in his throat. "So, what was so heinous that I couldn't hear?" he asked. "You don't have to say, if you don't want. But, I can't promise I won't try and find out."

Duo nodded. He reached down between their bodies, smearing the milky liquid. He sighed. "Something... I told you a long time ago. But since it's you, I bet you remember. The first time we... did this. Told you... I was crazy, remember?"

"Yes, I remember," Heero said, taking Duo's hand and placing it in his mouth, sucking the fingers.

Duo shivered. He pulled his fingers away. "If you want me to *talk*..." he said, lifting one arched eyebrow. "The Prof gave me something... a drug, supposed to help me keep it together. Since I was going to be... um... moving around, he made it like this thing that he put under the skin, and it degraded slowly. Supposed to last a year. The year's been up a couple of months now. The Prof... sent me a message. I sort of guessed what it was about. I didn't... want you to hear. I don't think I need it any more." He was a lot more relaxed now, talking about it. His trust in Heero was complete. His trust in himself... nearly so.

At the word *drug*, Heero focused completely. Drugs he understood in an upclose and personal way. He had certainly been injected and had ingested enough of them in his short lifetime. When Duo spoke, he found himself narrowing things down. 'Implant. Time release. Twelve month duration.' He looked down at Duo, feeling a few doubts at his final assessment of not needing the drugs anymore. Still, he felt that Duo would know his own body. He sighed. "Hai," he said, finally. "I'm here for you, Duo."

The braided boy sighed. "Heero... I know it looks bad... me sneakin' out. It's... embarrassing. I don't like people to know. You're the only person I've told. You and the Prof, no one else. People already think I'm weird enough as it is. Can you imagine what they'd think if they knew...." A shadow passed through Duo's wide eyes. "There's no war... no pressure. I really think... I'm okay," he finished, his tone ever so slightly pleading.

Heero sighed deeply. "I understand, koi," he said. "No one will know from me."

Duo cupped his hands around Heero's face. "You believe me?" he asked, his voice very soft. "That's I'm really okay?"

"You should know your own body, Duo," Heero said. "I'll be here to take care of you, in case, ne?"

It wasn't fully the answer Duo wanted but he realized it was generous... more than reasonable. But he wanted... he wanted Heero to say that Duo didn't need any drug, Duo was sane, fine... as much as anyone who survived the war, at least. Heart aching, Duo nodded, trying to be content with it.

Heero watched Duo and a part of him ached and felt guilty at not being able to give him what he wanted. He could see the need in Duo's eyes.

"Ok," Heero said, "You want something to eat?"

Duo sighed, then pushed Heero off his chest, but instead of moving away, he continued to push the Japanese boy onto his back and leaned over him. "Yes!" he said decisively, a wicked grin beginning to spread. He leaned over Heero's lap, leaving no confusion about what he wanted to... eat.
