"Singin' In The Rain"

I liked it a lot; a very nice, solid production, with absolutely wonderful dancing. Ronni Ancona was very funny, Josefina Gabrielle was delightful (beautiful voice, incredible dancing).

Adam Cooper's a fab dancer, but his singing voice is not in my books; it's untrained and lacks definition -- he's a good actor and as long as he doesn't sing incredibly expressive. That is not to say he can't sing, rather that he stood out in the cast as being not as good -- which is sad to say of a leading role.

I was, however, more than a little impressed by Simon Coulthard. The man is incredible; his "Make 'Em Laugh" did make me laugh, and cheer. Not only does he have incredible comic talent, he's also very versatile as a dancer and has a very nice voice; not the best I've ever heard, but nice and pleasant all the same. I admired his stamina in that he could sing and do such a complicated dance/acrobatics routine at the same time without once losing his beat or his breath. That takes something -- and he's got it. Definitely someone I need to look out for.

The "Singin' in the Rain" was a bit ... dry, because the rain came from two shower heads at either side of the stage. As we heard later, there had been a problem with technology. I thought it was quite funny to see Adam Cooper in rubber shoes though -- I hadn't thought of it before, but, obviously, you can't dance properly on a wet surface without being in constant danger of slipping.

"Good Mornin'" was a definite highlight for me as well and that adorable song that Simon and Adam sang and danced to "Moses Supposes" with the voice teacher. I liked this production better than "On Your Toes" because there was more dancing and that is certainly something Adam Cooper excels at.

We were at a talk with the main actors (Adam, Josefina, Ronni) after the show, which was very nice indeed. Adam is charming and funny, and Ronni a chatterbox ;).
