ORIGINAL VIENNA CAST RECORDING (1983)
This is one of my favourite recordings. It runs under the name of 'Original German Recording' (Deutsche Originalaufnahme) and has 1983 Vienna Cast on it. Highlights only, unfortunately. The performers are excellent, wonderful voices. I also find the German translation to be very good - not word-for-word though. I highly recommend this recording, if only to hear Steve Barton as Munkus, a superb 'Old Deuteronomy' number and the marvellous rendition of 'Macavity' by Ute Lemper and Jutta Bryde. ;D

NOTES:
Prolog: translation is wonderfully done. Michael Kunze is a genius ;D.
Gumbie-Katze: Steve Barton as Munkus. Heavenly.
Tugger: Michael Howe's funny. Hilarious to be exact. Note the *purrrrring snort* at the beginning of the song! It's a rhythmic yet fairly slow rendition of the song, the music is brilliant.
MJ & RT: I enjoy both the (musical) rendition and the voices. Gregory Jones has a fairly deep tone. *wow*
Alt-Deuteronimus: personally one of my fave interpretations of the song. Steve Barton, though American, didn't have a discernible accent. Smooth, beautiful voice, complimented perfectly
by Michael Howe's (Tug). They cut out an - albeit short - stanza of course *grumbles*
Jellicle Ball: instrumental, only the second part - after the Mating Dance.
Grizabella: 'Memory I' at the end of Act I. I like Angelika Milster's rendition and the translation too ;D
Gus: love Monica Solem (Jelly) and Joachim Kemmer (Gus) is brilliant.
Skimble: they cut out a stanza *sighs* once again, translation is great.
Macavity: effortlessly stunning - one of my fave interpretations of the song (minus one stanza of course)
Mistoffelees: plain cool. Michael Howe has the most adorable accent ;D. And I just *love* the "Abracadabra!" (oh well, I never)
Erinnerung: lovely 'Memory'
Reise i. d. S. R: I like the translation of 'Heaviside Layer' to 'Sphärischer Raum' - it works well with pacing and music and sounds
sufficiently mysterious for the song to retain its meaning.
Addressing: I love Gordon Bovinet - his voice is just right for Old Deut ;D. The chorus is marvellous.

Interesting to note: Tumblebrutus also plays Dschingis. There is no Electra, but a host of “kittens” – we have both Carbucketty and Pouncival, Bill Bailey and Tumblebrutus, Quaxo and Mistoffelees. Interesting is that Pouncival and Tumblebrutus are male parts, while Quaxo, Carbucketty, and Bill Bailey’s 1st casting is male, their understudies both male and female (!) though.
