Tak Home > Influences

Who are Tak Matsumoto's influences?

Was it all a dream?

Well, Tak tends to wear his influences on his sleeve so to speak, so it's not too hard to figure out who he's been listening to.  Some people give him a bit of shit for that, but it's not something I'm really concerned about.  As Frank Zappa said "The only original band is The Shaggs". Having said that, Tak better hope none of the lawyers of these people hear his work.

Anyway, for your listening pleasure, here are some real audio clips that will explain far better than my waffling. (I hate real audio too, but just you try putting an mp3 up on a free host.)  They are special separated-at-birth remixes, and I guarantee you haven't heard them before:

Bad Communication - as Jimmy Page did, so will be done unto him. Led Zeppelin - Trampled Underfoot

Deep Kiss - I doubt these are really related, but I wanted to bolster my case with irrlevant rubbish. The Sepultura version is the foetal heartbeat of one of the band member's children. This is an old rock & roll trick, perhaps John Lennon was the first to do this, when he put the recording of Yoko-&-his foetus dying on an LP. Sepultura - Chaos A.D.

Deep Kiss 2 - The next riff in Deep Kiss is pretty close to Van Halen's "Mean Street". Van Halen - Mean Street

Pound Cake - somewhere in the Buzz video he whips out a cordless drill and starts revving it up near the pickup. Gee, where have I heard that before? Van Halen - Pound Cake

Save Me - Excuse me while I kisu za sukai. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze

Slave To The Night - Slave to the Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing

Sweet Lil' Devil - I suppose Tak has broken a few hearts in his time. Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker

Yaburenu Yumeo Hikizutte - I'd like to know Right Now where this came from! Van Halen - Right Now

So...
