Draft Review (Part 2)

Ok guys, here is part 2 of my draft review.  This part will cover rounds 6 through round 11......

6.01     Team Juice                         Moe Williams  RB
6.02     Team Nookie                      Kellen Winslow Jr.  TE
6.03     Little Bastards                     Travis Minor  RB
6.04     FFB Superior                      Marc Bulger  QB
6.05     Team Juice (from Fat P)       Brett Favre  QB
6.06     Team Goo                           Freddie Jones  TE
6.07     Wong's LD's                       Alge Crumpler  TE
6.08     Team Tang                          Deshawn Foster  RB
6.09     Wong's LD's  (from JC)        Stephen Jackson  RB
6.10     Sadidas 21ers                       Donte Stallworth  WR
6.11     Flying Hellfish                      Jake Plummer  QB
6.12     Little Red Horse                    Deion Branch  WR

FF Superior thoughts:  Usually I don't pick a QB this early but I have to admit that I got caught up in the QB runs a little bit.  I saw that there were three teams didn't have their starting QB yet but I had no clue how many people would follow my advice from last year so I had to pull the trigger on Bulger here.  The guy is in a stud offense and he should do well, hopefully cutting down those INT's a little.

Best pick besides mine:  Now that Bennett is out for a little bit longer than first expected, I like the Moe Williams pick here.  Juice might have been able to get Williams a bit later in the draft but still a solid pick here.

Worst pick of round:  I thought that Freddie Jones went a little to prematurely here, Richie could have got this guy about two rounds later, but being an Arizona homer now, I'm sure he had to pull the trigger!  =)  Same thing with Branch in this round.

7.01     Little Red Horse                 Bryon Leftwich  QB
7.02     Flying Hellfish                   Antonio Gates  TE
7.03     Sadidas 21ers                    Larry Fitzgerald  WR
7.04     Air JC                               Reggie Wayne  WR
7.05     Team Tang                        Roy Williams  WR
7.06     Wong's LD's                      Jeff Garcia  QB
7.07     Team Goo                          Peter Warrick  WR
7.08     Fat British                          Boo Williams  TE
7.09     FFB Superior                      Justin McCariens  WR
7.10     Little Bastards                     Brandon Lloyd  WR
7.11     Team Nookie                      Baltimore D
7.12     Team Juice                         Daniel Graham  TE

FF Superior thoughts:  Going into this round, I felt I had to target a WR since they were going like flies throughout the draft.  At the beginning of the draft, I was targeting McCariens because I felt that he would do great with Pennington at the helm and should take some pressure off of Santana Moss.  I was fortunate to get him as the 33rd WR taken (and his Average Draft Position was 7.03 and I pretty much got him at 8.09 with our first round of being keepers).

Best pick besides mine:  Antonio Gates is a guy who I wanted real bad and I thought that he would slip to me next round but I was way off obviously.  He had a great second half of the season last year and since San Diego isn't the best of teams, he'll get dumpoffs quite a bit.  Boo Williams I thought was great value this late as well.

Worst pick of round:  With no surprise, it is Baltimore defense.  We all know how I feel about drafting defenses this early and I will guarentee right now that Baltimore will not be the #1 defense at the end of the year, so was this early pick really worth it?  I just can't emphasize what the turnover rate is for top D's every year.

8.01     Team Juice                          Willis McGahee  RB
8.02     Team Nookie                        Joey Galloway  WR
8.03     Little Bastards                       Mushin Muhammad  WR
8.04     FFB Superior                        Dallas Clark  TE
8.05     Fat British                             Ashley Lelie  WR
8.06     Team Goo                            Joey Harrinton  QB
8.07     Wong's LD's                         Donald Driver  WR
8.08     Team Tang                           L.J. Smith  TE
8.09     Air JC                                  Mike Vanderjagt  K
8.10     Sadidas 21ers                        Ron Dayne  RB
8.11     Flying Hellfish                       New England D
8.12     Little Red Horse                     Philadelphia D

FF Superior thoughts:  This year I went into the draft with the thinking that no one on my roster will get injured.  With that in mind, I had my top three RB's, top three WR's, and my starting QB, so I decided that there wasn't any RB or WR worth taking here that I couldn't get two or three round later, so I decided to go the TE route.  I had Dallas Clark in my second tier of TE's and he was the only one left so I decided to go with Clark who has a great upside with big play ability as shown last season.

Best Pick besides mine:  This round I'm a fan of Galloway and Lelie.  Lelie is in his third year with Denver and some say that he's not all that good and hasn't done what he's supposed to but if you look at last season, this guy averaged more than 17 yards per catch and Plummer just wasn't looking his way all that much.  Galloway should be able to benefit from McCardell holding out as the #1 WR.

Worst pick of round:  Even though there was a kicker picked this round, I'm going to go off on the Philly D pick instead.  Last year they were the 19th ranked defense and just because they picked up one guy in Jevon Kearse, doesn't mean that Philly ranks as the third best defense taken.  Carolina obviously would have been a better choice here as at least they are a shoe in as a top 10 D.  Note to JC, re-read my reviewing last season to see if it still makes sense.....=)

9.01     Sadidas 21ers (from LRH)     Tatem Bell  RB
9.02     Flying Hellfish                       Eddie Kennison  WR
9.03     Sadidas 21ers                        David Carr  QB
9.04     Air JC                                  Chester Taylor  RB
9.05     Team Tang                           Lamont Jordan  RB
9.06     Wong's LD's                         Jake Delhomme  QB
9.07     Team Goo                             Terry Glenn  WR
9.08     Fat Britsh                              Brad Johnson  QB
9.09     FFB Superior                         Carson Palmer  QB
9.10     Little Bastards                        Jeff Wilkens  K
9.11     Team Nookie                         Tommy Maddox  QB
9.12     Team Juice                            Jason Elam  K

FF Superior thoughts:  Going into this round I knew exactly where I was going with my pick.  With my sleeper RB and WR still out there, I decided to go with my backup QB at this point.  I was targeting Delhomme this round but Wong beat me to the punch so I decided to go with Palmer, who was in a tier higher than the rest of the QB's out there.  The guy has looked pretty good in preseason so hopefully he'll comtinue the trend during the regular season....he's sure got the tools to do it in Cincy.

Best Pick of round:  Jake Delhomme is great value this round.  The guy could probably be a fantasy starter and for him to drop to ninth round I found a little shocking.  The guy is solid week in and week out and although he doesn't post Culpepper type numbers, he'll give you consistantcy every week.

Worst pick of round:  Well besides the obvious (kickers), I gotta go with Tommy Maddox here......this guy has some tools around him but like Warner, he's kinda of a one or two year wonder and has nothing left in the tank.  This guy is done, done and done......

10.01     Team Juice                            Andre Davis  WR
10.02     Team Nookie                         Kevin Dyson  WR
10.03     Little Bastards                        William Green  RB
10.04     FFB Superior                          Bubba Franks  TE
10.05     Fat British                              Drew Bledsoe  QB
10.06     Team Goo                              Jim Kleinsasser  TE
10.07     Wong's LD's                          David Akers  K
10.08     Team Tang                             Mark Brunell  QB
10.09     Air JC                                    Josh McNown  QB
10.10     Sadidas 21ers                          Tyrone Calico  WR
10.11     Flying Hellfish                          Rod Gardner  WR
10.12     FFB Superior (from LRH)         Rich Gannon  QB

FF Superior thoughts:  After making my Franks pick, I heard Jc say "What's up with this, Jugs has two TE's and two QB's before his 4th RB and WR!"  Well here's my chance to explain that.  When it came to my 10.04 pick, I looked and saw that there were only 6 teams that needed a remaining RB and WR and I had a list of about 6 guys from each position who I'd be happy with, so I decided to go with my 2nd TE.  Franks will get his catches and TD's as I had him ranked top 12 so I thought I'd take him here. As for Gannon, same thing applied.  There's no way that Gannon has a worse year than he had last year, and if he does, thank god he's a 3rd QB.

Best Pick besides mine:  I liked that Calico pick until he got inured the other night and is out for a few weeks now.  Even though he'll still be productive when he comes back, I hope his injury isn't one of those things that will nag for a month after returning.  Green has the biggest upside here if he can get into the starting lineup somehow.

Worst pick of round:  Kevin Dyson, are you kidding me???  Nookie could have gotten Dyson in the last round for christ sake!!  Not a Kleinsasser fan, especially when he is picked over TE's like Kinney, Stevens, Pollard, and Billy Miller for that matter.

11.01     Little Red Horse                     Josh Brown  K
11.02     Flying Hellfish                       Antwain Smith  RB
11.03     Sadidas 21ers                        Carolina D
11.04     Air JC                                   Quincy Morgan  WR
11.05     Team Tang                            Drew Bennett  WR
11.06     Wong's LD's                          Dallas D
11.07     Team Goo                             Emmitt Smith  RB
11.08     Fat British                              Rex Grossman  QB
11.09     FFB Superior                          Richie Anderson  RB
11.10     Little Bastards                         Tim Rattay  QB
11.11     Team Nookie                          Jerome Bettis  RB
11.12     Team Juice                             Tampa Bay  D

FF Superior thoughts:  This was a guy that I targeting the whole draft and my golly he fell right in my hands.  I waited and waited and knew I'd get him pretty late.  Anderson will do well in Parcells system and even though he won't run the ball that much, he'll be catching passes like they are running out of style.  Look for this guy to have 70 catches on the year (last year he had 69).

Best Pick besides mine:  I actually like the Josh Brown pick in this round.  He's a great kicker who will get his fair share chances at the long field goals and he's on a great offense so he should finish top 7 or so at least for kicker points.  I'm not a fan of Emmitt Smith but he does have good value in the 11th round (actually 12th I guess).

Worst pick of round:  Tampa Bay D went a little early I thought considering they lost half of their defensive starters, but then again, 11th round is slim pickings.

Well that's the next 6 round of the draft.  These are the rounds where if you get that one sleeper pick, you can ride him all the way to fantasy playoffs.  Let's bring back last season's draft when I drafted Santana Moss in the 11th round.....great value I'd have to say and he's one of the big reasons I made it to the playoffs last season.  Coming up next, a whole bunch of defenses and kickers where they should be drafted!!
