You just gotta love coach Bill Browning. He's back again and doing his
best Lou Holtz impersonation. Coach Browning never actually tells you
how good his team is. He always has this I'm-not-sure-how-many-teams-we-can-beat-this-year exterior, while consistantly finding ways to
tally enough victories for a run at a play-off spot.
You'd think with the loss of Ryan Bunch and Dee Brown to graduation - the loss of Eric Williams and possibly Theo Brown to injuries and an overall preceived lack of depth, this team could be in for a looooong season.
THINK AGAIN!!
Lack of talent at linebacker??? Yea right.
OK - So there were big
losses there, but linebacker has been the strength of Hernando's
defense for the last decade. It may not be as "star-studded" as it
has been in recent years, but don't think for one minute that this
group isn't a unified, hungry group just itching to prove themselves.
Lack of depth at running back??? PAAALEEAASE.
Fine you have only two
truly experienced backs coming back from last year. Art Starks and
Trevor Coleman (no slouches folks). Add Rod Roberts and his
break-away abilities, a mountainous Steve Cassell from his
defensive end position (used exclusively in short yardage situations)
and Coach Browning's usual cast of "suprise witnesses" and this group
will be as effective as any the Leopards have put on the field in
recent years.
With the return of quarterback Brad Wyatt, a more experienced offensive, and defensive line (which may actually be there biggest strength), and the new district alignment, this team will be hanging around long enough to look at another post season.
GOOD LUCK TO THE COACHING STAFF AND THE LEOPARD TEAM AGAIN THIS YEAR!!
Week 1
Sringstead @ Hernando
This IS going to be a good team - And you can hold me to that!!
They will mature as a unit and show much more than they did against an
underated Springstead Eagle team in a 26-7 loss last Friday night. Art
Starks and Trevor Coleman are good running backs, and the Leopard
defense did a fine job against the run. Just be a little patient and
give these guys a chance to prove themselves.
The Leopards biggest problem was the costly turn-overs at critical times when they should have been knockin' on the endzones door. These things are gonna happen from time to time when your still developing the chemistry it takes to win against a team that has playoff potential. All's it will take is a victory next week at Citrus to have this squad moving in the right direction before their first district matchup of the season.
WE STILL BELIEVE IN YA HERE LEOPARDS!! - LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR NEXT MEETING - SQUEEZE THE JUICE OUT OF CITRUS!!
