PRESEASON PREVIEW

Hapless - Hopeless - Horrible

Now THERE'S some adjectives you can keep in a lowly corner of some forgotten shelf this year.

Suprise, Suprise, Suprise.

The 2001 edition of the Springstead Eagle football team is going to stun some opponents this year. Yea, I know. You've heard that rhetoric before.

Well you heard it here first - SPRINGSTEAD IS A SOLID FOOTBALL TEAM!!

With the return of such talent as Everett Simmons (QB), Brian Bolcarr (QB/WR), Steve Garofano (RB/LB), Daniel Radish (RB/LB), and an ever-improving defense, this group is going to have more than one opposing coach shaking his head before the end of the season.

This senior laden team with the infusion of such up-and-comers as Justin Melnick, up from JV, and freshmen Joe Morando and Justin Demutis is going to worm its way into the victory-deprived hearts of the Springstead faithful.
You don't believe me do you. Well let me throw a few recent quotes in at ya.

"Springstead is probably the most improved team in the area" - THIS one came from coach Bill Browning at Hernando High
"This may be the best "team" we've had coming into the season" - from coach Bill Vonada in a pre-season interview.
"I think maybe we came in a little bit over confident" - Wesley Chapel Wildcat coach John Castelamare after a 6-0 Springstead jamboree win.
It won't be the last time this season someone makes a mistake by overlooking this team.

Depth, Experience, and Special Teams play could propel this team, which has managed just THREE wins in the last two seasons, into a position to compete for a playoff spot this year.

KUDOS AND GOOD LUCK TO COACH VONADA, HIS COACHING STAFF, AND THIS YEARS EAGLE TEAM.

Still don't believe me??? - Well we'll see who's eatin' crow at the end of the season.

Weekly Updates

Week 1
Sringstead @ Hernando

"There were too many to count officer. I swear they looked just like the Springstead Eagle football team, but it couldn't be. They came into Tom Fischer Stadium and dismantled the Hernando Leopards 26-7. That couldn't have been the same Eagle team we've come to know."

That WAS the Springstead Eagles - The 2001 version - and you better get used to it!! A presicion passing performance from Brian Bolcar, prime-time receptions by Jeff Hill, three crutial sacks by John Legner and a forth-down touchdown by Steve Garofano, highlighted an evening that shows why the rest of the district is considering the Eagles a serious contender. And they should!!

An aggresive and speedy defense kept Hernando in check from sideline to sideline and a balanced offense, which uncharacteristically, used the passing game to open the run, successfully marched up and down the soggy field all night in the opening game of the season for both clubs. The Eagles showed a confidence not seen in recent years and a good showing next week at Crystal River, win or lose, should give this squad the momentum they need going into their district schedule.

VICTORIES LIKE THIS SHOULD BE SAVORED - CONGRATS EAGLES!!!
