2000 FFL SUPERBOWL

Midwest Menace – 139

Stone Cold Lionhearts – 63

MVP:  Daunte Culpepper – 40 points

The Midwest Menace put an exclamation point on their record-setting season by destroying the Lionhearts in this Superbowl.  Daunte Culpepper scored 40 points to lead the Menace in the game and become the 2000 FFL Superbowl MVP.  Culpepper’s 40 points set a new Superbowl record for quarterbacks, shattering the 25 points posted by Jeff Hostetler of the Gamblers back in the 1993 FFL Superbowl.  Additionally, Culpepper’s 40-point effort became the best performance in Superbowl history at ANY position, breaking the 38 points scored by Shannon Sharpe of the Toads in the 1997 Superbowl.  Running back Marshall Faulk added 31 points in the game to also shatter the previous FFL Superbowl record at his position—besting the 19 points scored by Edgerrin James of the Lionhearts in the Superbowl the previous season.  And if this isn’t enough record-breakers, we’ll move on to the Menace pass-catchers… Terrell Owens scored 29 points and Randy Moss added 20 points, BOTH players breaking the previous Superbowl record at the wide receiver position—the 19.5 points from Sterling Sharpe for the Toads back in the 1994 Superbowl.  When you break so many records in one game, it should come as no surprise that the Menace posted the best score in FFL Superbowl history.  The Midwest Menace completely shattered the FFL Superbowl record with an amazing 139 points in this game, breaking the 68.5 points scored by the Wildcats in the 1993 Superbowl.  Additionally, the Menace posted the biggest margin of victory in a Superbowl by blowing-out the Lionhearts by a staggering 76 points.  With the victory, the Menace became the second team in FFL history to post multiple Championships, this year and their Title in 1998… this still left the Menace a single Championship behind the Anorexic Toads.  The Stone Cold Lionhearts put up a very nice score in their own right, but it wasn’t nearly enough to compete in this game.  Running back Rickey Watters led the scoring for the Lionhearts with 15 points and defensive back Victor Green added 14 points of support.  Victor Green’s 14 points broke the FFL Superbowl record at that position, besting the 13-point effort by Lawyer Milloy of the Menace back in the 1998 Superbowl.  Edgerrin James, the Superbowl MVP the previous season, also scored in double digits with 10 points.  The Lionhearts were unable to defend their Title in this game, but they did manage to become only the second team in FFL history to appear in back-to-back Superbowls, joining the Toads of 1996 and 1997.
