1993 FFL SUPERBOWL

Washburn Wildcats - 68.5

Ramblin’ Gamblers - 66

MVP:  Chris Jacke, 17 points

This was the first Superbowl in FFL history, and the matchup was anything but a Clash of the Titans.  The Wildcats finished only 4th in the FFL Scoring Race and the Gamblers finished just 7th.  Even though the Gamblers were a very lucky 7th-ranked scoring team, they did manage to win their final nine regular season games including a victory in the season finale against these same Wildcats.  But defeating the same team on consecutive weeks would prove to be quite a challenge.  As Monday Night Football opened, the Ramblin’ Gamblers had an 11-point lead over the Wildcats 66-55… but the Wildcats still had aging wide receiver John Taylor with a chance to pull off the victory.  Taylor’s performance was completely uneventful through the first two quarters, as he hadn’t caught a single pass.  But late in the 3rd quarter, Taylor caught a 38-yard touchdown pass to win the first-ever FFL Superbowl for the Wildcats.  It was the second straight year that the FFL Title was decided on a Monday Night Football second-half touchdown pass by the San Francisco 49ers.  The MVP of our first Superbowl was place kicker Chris Jacke who led the Wildcats in this game with 17 points.  The top-scorer was Gamblers quarterback Jeff Hostetler who posted 25 points in defeat.  As the 1990’s ended, both Jacke & Hostetler still held the FFL Superbowl Records at their respective positions.
