1998 FFL SUPERBOWL

Midwest Menace - 37

Damage - 35

MVP:  Lawyer Milloy, 13 points

For the Midwest Menace it was their second FFL Superbowl and a shot at their first-ever League Championship… for the Damage it was exactly the opposite.  The Damage were the champs of the FFL back in 1992 before the Superbowl was even born, and this was their first shot at winning the FFL Superbowl.  It was another tight game, and the Menace took a 12-point lead into Monday Night Football.  The Damage were depending on running back Jerome Bettis to bring them back on Monday Night, and Bettis responded with a huge night.  Bettis reached 100 yards rushing before halftime to cut the defecit to just two points.  He would never reach the end zone, but as the game was winding down he was quickly approaching the 150-yard mark that would give him another 5 points.  When the Monday Night telecast closed, the announcers reported that Bettis had finished with exactly 150 yards in the game… BUT upon further review… when the morning came, every source you could look at would show Bettis’ Monday Night rushing yardage as just 139, thus snatching the victory from the Damage and returning the Menace to the forefront for our Superbowl victory.  The Menace were led in this game by Lawyer Milloy’s 13 points… he was the FFL’s top defensive back during the regular season and in this game he became the first defensive player to win the Superbowl MVP award.  For the Damage it was fitting that they were led in this game by their season MVP Randall Cunningham… although his 14 points was a far cry from the 25.8 average he had posted during the year.
