The Jockey Memorial
Love Potion, a four-year-old stallion owned by Silver Hill Stables, came into the Jockey Memorial looking like a winner, and came out as a winner.
Love Potion was aquired by Silver Hill Stables as a three-year-old, with only one race under his belt and no wins. He quickly proved however, that good training can change a lot. At three Love Potion won the Forest Hills, a million-dollar race, and now the Jockey Memorial as a four-year old.
"Before the race, Love Potion made quite a racket getting into the gate, which is unusual for him," comments his trainer.
Love Potion broke first, but his jockey Diane Nelson quickly pulled him back to fifth. Love's Tricks, piolted by Tyler Baze, took an early lead with Townsend Lord and Unbridled Heart on his tail. In the backstretch, Stroke of Power and Pangs started making their moves. Love's Tricks stayed on the lead and Stroke of Power settled back in third. Pangs held on to second. 3 1/2 furlongs from the wire, Love Potion moved up on the leaders. It was a two-horse race between him and Love's Tricks. Only a few yards away from the wire, Pangs stumbled and went down on her knees. Stroke of Power was forced to check and go around her.Love Potion went under the wire a neck in front of Love's Tricks. Stroke of Power held on to a strong third.
