| Quarter Pole Downs- Five powerful Thoroughbreds bounded out of the gate in the Ash Valley Stakes. Moni Maker took an early lead, with Master Charles right on her tail. Can't Beat Starview and It's A Miracle settled behind the leaders and Akuvita took up the rear. Coming into the first turn, Moni Maker tired and It's a Miracle took the lead. Akuvita slowly began moving up on the outside. In the far turn It's a Miracle fell back to fourth and Akuvita took the lead. Half way down the stretch Can't Beat Starview came flying forward on the inside, beating Akuvita by 1/2 length. The Starview colt's owner said after the race that she was "Delighted but not suprised," in her words. Today, Can't Beat Starview lived up to his name. |
