Square Co. To sell GB GamesAccording to The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Digicube Co., a Japanese videogame retailer that uses convenience stores as a marketing channel, will begin selling Game Boy games for the first time in March. Not so interesting in itself -- until one realizes that Square is the parent company of Digicube. Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi has publicly spoken out against Square, and Nintendo severed ties with the company when it began supplying games for PlayStation in 1996. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Digicube will start taking preorders for Enix's latest Dragon Quest game on Thursday at some 20,000 convenience stores nationwide ahead of its release on March 9. The company plans to market more software for Game Boy beginning in April. So far it is mainly handling CD-ROM game software, targeting 20- to 30-year-olds. 12th Febuary |
