Modern Medicine:
Sometimes you can find a medical professional who knows a little bit about these illnesses.
But no one really knows what to do about it, and if they're honest, they'll tell you that. I've
only had one doctor that was honest enough to say that.
Some might help you try different things. But more often than not, they'll tell you it's not
a real illness. (These people have obviously never had it. They have no idea how real it can be!)
But you will need a diagnosis from an M.D., and tests that will at least rule out everything else.
So keep trying different doctors until you can find one who is qualified
to diagnose, and is at least sympathetic and willing to help you discover things that might help you feel better.
Many times Fibro and CFS are misdiagnosed because there are so many symptoms that are similar to other illnesses (anything from congestive heart failure to arthritis). It is wise to have everything checked out
just to be assured that there isn't something else going on. Then you know where you stand and can go from there.
There are new studies being done. Some feel that there is link between Fibromyalgia and thyroid. But most doctors are unwilling to do the
additional testing necessary if the preliminary test comes back negative. Some feel there can also be a link with Sleep Apnea. You have to be assertive and insist on getting what you need. Insist on getting tested thoroughly.
