What to watch out for:
Products and concoctions. Everyone will try to sell them to you. You'll spend a LOT of money (that you probably don't have)
trying things that are supposed to be miraculous cures. And maybe they did help someone. Or maybe not. But they didn't help me.
In my experience, healing from Fibromyalgia and CFS is a long process that requires some major life changes
and time for the body to adjust to those changes. You have to listen to you own body and what it needs.
There may be vitamins, minerals, therapies, etc. that support the body
in that process. But I tend to think that someone who was "cured" overnight didn't really have it to begin with.
People who aren't willing to try to understand or who are not supportive. I heard a lot of
comments such as "We're all tired." "Why don't you just go get a job." You don't need to have to
deal with that on top of everything else. Creating a network of supportive people around you is very helpful.
Exercise. And people who tell you that's all you need and you should be doing more of it. For
me, getting out of bed, taking a shower and getting dressed is aerobic exercise. Then I have to
go back to bed. And there are still many days when I can't even manage that. Slow, gradual stretching
is a very good exercise for people with fibro and CFS. Until you can gradually do more.
Generalizations. No two people are affected in exactly the same way by fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
There are some "lucky" people who can keep working through it. They might have a mild version. Then there are people
I know of who have had to be hospitalized and put on morphine drips because it was so bad. I've
been somewhere in the middle, between not being able to get out of bed, and being able to take care of myself somewhat. So
watch out for people who say "So and so kept working, why can't you." Or "She got over it in a
few months." Blah blah blah blah blah...
