Ptery
the Pet Dragon
[by Asagi Tsuki]
~Prologue~
A black spiky haired youth was running across the dense forest, trying to find
some animals, he moved swiftly like a tiger would when they came out and search
for its prey.
He ran through the dense forest from the east side to the west side but still,
he couldn't find even a single little rabbit what had happened in this forest
anyway? It looked like all animals are scared to death by a certain something
and now there aren't any animals left in this enormous dense forest.
His pace became swifter as he sensed something, he quickly ran through the
bushes only to find many corpses, many dead dragons' corpses.
But unfortunately, the youth lived in an island and have never read any books
that describe dragon so he didn't know that they're dragon corpses.
He thought that they were giant birds or something, "But giant bird with
solid tail and wing? I thought birds' tail and wing are made from bunches of
feathers, not like this," he thought but then shrugged it off.
He wanted to bring the corpses home for them to cook so they could eat something
at least, but then decided just to leave the corpses there as he saw something
extraordinary.
An egg. A green colored giant egg with strange green spots. The spots were
strange too, as they aren't in the shape of a circle, but mostly looked like an
island.
He thought that the egg is unique and decided to bring it home for them to
examine, especially they had the genius blonde of theirs.
He gathered all the corpses and buried them, the corpses looked strange, looks
like something was missing from them. But he can't really tell, the eyes are
still there, the teeth are still there, the scales.. And fangs..
'Wait, do birds have fangs and scales?' the youth questioned himself as he
continued to stare at the corpses, 'But it really looks like the missing parts
are the scales and the fangs,'
He felt strange at his own feeling, why do he feel that the missing parts are
the fangs and the scales when he himself doesn't know what creature they are and
what they really looked like? It's not like he knew that the creature have
scales or fangs.
He then shrugged it off, he preferred it than making his head spin like hell, he
continued burying the corpses until they were all neatly buried under the wet
and sticky soil.
He picked the extraordinary egg up and brought it home, with hope that the
others will know what egg is this. He carefully placed it in his embrace and
brought it home.
He slowly walked home, bringing the heavy and extraordinary egg with him. He
reached their home just in time before it was noon, it was still early and the
others were still enjoying breakfast.
The spiky haired youth opened the door with his left hand while his right hand
still held the egg near to him, he entered the house and walked towards the
dining room, where his friends are.
"Hey guys, do you know what this is?" the spiky haired youth asked his
friends as he held up a giant egg that he found back then in the dense forest,
near all the enormous corpses.
"It's an egg," the oldest one replied simply as he sipped his coffee
and fixed his glasses position then continued to read the newspaper.
"If only that, I know too," the spiky haired youth pouted a bit at the
reply, he wasn't satisfied with the answer his friend gave him, it's so simple
that he didn't even need to know that because he ALREADY know that, of course
people will know that it IS an egg.
Another spiky haired boy approached the black spiky haired boy and said,
"Maybe a giant chicken egg," he said jokingly. He chuckled a bit when
he saw the expression on his friend's face, the black spiky haired youth
actually BELIEVE that it IS a giant chicken egg.
"Of course I'm only kidding Gon, there's no way a chicken can lay an egg
this big," he said again, and received a pout from Gon as he said,
"You're mean, Killua, you nearly make me believe that those giant creatures
were really giant chickens,".
The reply caught Killua's interest, "Giant creature?" he asked
excitedly, "Where did you found them? What do they look like? Why can this
egg be found at the forest?"
"Calm down Killua, one by one!" he said as he put down the egg and sat
near it to prevent it from gliding everywhere and then broke something or itself
will be cracked.
Killua contained his excitement, he slowly asked, "Now, where do you find
them?" he asked slowly and softly as he tried his best not to blurt out all
questions that he needed to know the answers.
"Well, I was walking through the forest to find something to eat when I saw
them, but already dead," Gon said slowly as he let out a soft sigh, surely
he wasn't that mean to kill many animals at the same time like that, he even
didn't want to kill a single animal.
"Oh, okay, I get the point, now, what do they look like?" he continued
to ask. Gon looked up at him and then answered, "I've never seen them
before, the skin was a bit orange, large eyelids, horns, devil-like wings, and a
big long tail," he answered.
Now, wouldn't you want to know why our cute Gon knew about devil but didn't know
about dragon? I want to know myself. Killua would too, but he decided to not ask
that question to Gon.
"Really? Then it must be something like.. Dragon," Killua said,
finally going into a conclusion, "But I'm not sure yet, don't too sure that
it is a dragon egg," he said again, because he never actually saw a dragon
egg, never even imagine to see a real dragon egg with his own eyes.
"And I've feelings that told me they have scales and fangs, beautiful ones,
but was took by the killers of the giant creatures," Gon continued, telling
his best friend about the strange feeling he had that time when he was still
around the corpses, exactly when he was still examining the corpses, trying to
find what's strange about the creature.
"Oh yeah? You have sharp feelings then, Gon, I think it's really a dragon
egg.. Maybe," he said again, not sure of his own words.
Then Killua suggested, "Maybe we should ask Kurapika, he's the smartest
among us anyway," he smiled and then he walked to the backyard, where
Kurapika is, followed by Gon who is still holding the giant egg.
"Kurapika," they called out at the blonde who was sitting on a bench
near the backyard, reading a thick book with ineligible writing as the title at
the dusty cover, surely the book came from the 5th century or so.
The blonde looked up at his friends and smiled a bit, "Oh you two, what are
you doing here?" he closed the book after leaving a bookmark at the page he
was reading, "I thought you were enjoying the breakfast with Leorio,"
he continued.
"Yeah, not after a certain black spiky haired boy come and bring a strange
egg along with him," Killua said matter-of-factly, he motioned Gon to bring
the egg forward and show it to Kurapika for he to examine.
"This is..?" he asked as he examined the egg carefully, his sight
dropped on every single spot on the egg, every single cracks even though the
cracks are small he could see it, and he stared at the strange color of the egg,
surely no normal chicken eggs come out in green, right?
"I found this when I was walking at the forest, there are many blood near
it and many giant creature corpses," Gon explained how he actually found
the strange egg and happened to brought it home, "Killua said that maybe
the giant creatures were dragons, but he wasn't quite sure yet so we decided to
ask you about this,"
"Oh, I see, so you don't really know what this is?" Kurapika asked his
friends and received a shook from each of them as answers to his question,
"If I'm not wrong, I've seen this egg in a book, if I'm not wrong it's a
dragon egg," he continued examining the egg, some cracks are getting
bigger.
"Then I'm not wrong, see?" Killua said boastfully at his friend, not
noticing the worry at Kurapika's expression. He still examined the egg, the
cracks are getting bigger one by one, like telling them that the creature inside
it will come out soon.
The egg finally cracked open after some time, revealing a pair of big golden
orbs, blinking with confusedness, and a small roar, coming from a petite
orange-skinned dragon.
~End of Prologue~
So, what do you think about this story? Corny? I accept comments happily, so
feel free to give me some.
The idea of this story struck me all of a sudden because of playing The Sims
Makin' Magic, you know you can raise a dragon in the game. ^^
