March was a bit of a slow travel month as A Semester started and I was quite busy with school. I did get in a day trip to Waihi Beach, but my camera battery died partway through. I want to go back anyway though: there was a nature reserve, a waterfall and a geyser that we didn't get to see. Some local notes:

THE HAMILTON  MUSEUM was a bit of a disappointment. I remember a giant canoe, and quite a bit of Maori jewelry but that's pretty much it.

THE RIVER WALK is definitely worth exploring. I had my first look at it this month when I finally found someone to go with me. It was night, and it was lit up in all different coloured lights. I'll go back later for pictures, and a daytime look. It definitely bears further exploring, but take a buddy as parts of it are, as they say, 'dodgy' when solo.

THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO LIBRARY has a fairly impressive New Zealand collection. I highly recommend Michael King's History of New Zealand. It's quite readable and offers a good general overview. He was a local author who died last year in an accident. Everyone speaks very highly of his work. Other NZ authors I've checked out include Witi Ihimaera (Whale Rider and others), Janet Frame (Angel at my Table) and Elizabeth Knox (Daylight and others).
