Chapter Eleven

Early the next morning, Joey was lying flat on his back and stared up at the ceiling. His mind was going over on what happened last night. He still couldn’t believe what happened to poor Sydney. She was nothing but a sweet girl and she shouldn’t have gone through such a horrible ordeal.
He shifted to his side and smiled softly when he watched Georgia sleeping soundly. He remembered the way JC looked when he held her close last night. He looked like he would explode if anyone tried to hurt her. He had never seen him like that in all the years he had known him. But he understood completely. If it had been Georgia last night, he probably would have killed Brad with his bare hands. His hands shook slightly as he reached out and pulled a strand her curly hair out of her face. She had come to mean so much to him in a short period of time and it scared him almost. He has never stayed with one girl for a long period of time, only because he hasn’t found the right one. Everyone called him a ladies man and how he could never be with one woman. But they were wrong. He could, he just had to find her.
Georgia moaned tiredly as she shifted under the sheets. She felt a warm caress against her cheek and then felt it run along her mouth. She smiled as she kissed his fingers and then playfully bit the pad of his finger. She heard him chuckle as he leaned down and replaced his finger with his lips. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her against him as he slowly deepened the kiss.
He finally pulled back and sucked her bottom lip before looking down at her. “Morning,” he finally said.
She grinned and then finally opened her eyes. “Morning,” she said and then snuggled next to him. “If only my alarm clock was as warm and snuggly as you. I’d wake up for class every day.”
He laughed softly as he rested his chin on the top of her head. “Ditto,” he said and then hugged her tight.
Georgia noticed the sadness in his voice and looked up at him concerned. “Are you okay, baby?”
He shut his eyes at her words. He liked the way she called him baby. “Just…Just thinking about what happened last night.”
She sighed as she rested her cheek against his bare chest. “I know. It was awful.”
“Georgia,” he said shakily. “If that had been you I don’t know what…”
“Shh,” she said as she shifted up and kissed him softly. “Don’t think about that.”
He dove his fingers in her hair and pulled her down so she could linger on his lips. “I...don’t want to…leave you…tomorrow,” he said between kisses.
She kissed him one last time and then snuggled up against him. “I know. I don’t either.”
“Are you going to want…I mean well, do you think…”
She chuckled. “Spit it out, hun.”
“Are you going to want to see me again?” he asked hopefully.
She looked down at him. “Of course,” she said sweetly as she laid her hand on his rough cheek. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
He grinned and then leaned up and kissed her. “I don’t intend to.”

JC was sitting on the bed the next morning, chatting with his sister. He had been talking to her for the past hour. Sydney had been asleep, but she woke up and decided to take a shower. She gave him a quick kiss, before she closed the bathroom door behind him.
He was telling Heather the whole story, from the first time he saw her on the balcony to last night. She was making him laugh a bit, because the romantic in her was coming out. She told him that any girl that could make Lonnie ski is definitely worth it. He was in the middle of telling her what happened last night, when someone knocked on the door. “Yeah,” he said as he continued typing.
The door creaked open and Lance and Michele walked in. “How is she doing?” Michele asked.
JC looked up and smiled at her. “She’s okay,” he assured her. “She’s a tough one.”
JC gave her sister a quick goodbye and then closed his laptop, so he could give them his full attention. “How was she last night?” Lance asked as they both sat at the end of the bed.
JC shook his head. “You should have seen the bruises he left on her,” he said harshly. “He better thank his lucky stars he’s safe in a cell, or I’d come after him and kill him myself.”
“I know that must have been hard for you,” Lance said. “I’m glad you found her.”
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “I heard her screaming for me,” he said and then opened his eyes. He looked at the bathroom door. “Not physically, but I heard her in my mind, and it scared me.”
Michele’s heart went out to him when she saw him stare in his lap. “JC,” she said softly as she got up and sat next to him on the bed.
He looked up at her and revealed his watery eyes. “Michele, what if I hadn’t…”
“Don’t worry about what if,” she said and then took him in her arms. “You found her, C,” she said trying her best to comfort him. “Just like you said, you heard her. You two are soul mates, don’t you see?”
He sniffed as he rested his cheek on her comforting shoulder. “Yeah. I love her very much.”
“I know you do,” she said. “I know.”
He sniffed again and then pulled away and wiped his eyes. “Thanks, Michele.”
“What are friends for,” she said as she patted his hand before walking back over to Lance.
Lance put an arm around her. She was truly an amazing person, he thought when he watched her comfort his best friend. “We’ll leave you two alone,” Lance finally said. “I take it ya’ll aren’t going skiing today.”
He shook his head. “Probably not,” he said. “I…” He stopped talking when the bathroom door swung open and Sydney walked out. She was still in the Redskins jersey and it came down to her mid-thigh. Her hair was wet and it was brushed out of her face that still glowed from the shower.
“Hey Syd,” Michele said as she walked over and hugged her friend. “Are you doing okay?”
She nodded. “Yes, I’m fine,” she assured her. “I’m a little sore, but other than that I’m good.”
“Brad better pray he never comes face to face with me,” she said as she leaned back. “Or else I’d rip his eyes out.”
“Not if I beat you to it,” she said softly. “I did knee him in the balls, though.”
Lance and JC both winced as they closed their legs together. “I hope I never make you mad, Syd,” JC said.
She laughed. “For your sake I hope not too.”
The girls giggled when the guys winced again. Lance and Michele said a quick goodbye, and then left the two alone. “They couldn’t be more perfect, could they?” Michele asked as the walked back to their rooms.
Lance grabbed her hand as they walked through the door. “No they couldn’t,” he said and then closed the door behind her and pressed her against the door.
“Lance,” she laughed in surprise. “What are you…”
He muffled his words when he crushed his lips against hers. He turned his head to the side and dove his tongue in her mouth as he pressed her harder against the door. He didn’t know what came over him; he just had this urge to kiss her. Maybe it was because of what happened last night and he was scared. He was scared, because it could have easily been Michele. Or maybe it was the fact that he was leaving her tomorrow and he didn’t want to. He didn’t know why he was kissing her, but then again did he have to have a reason.
She moaned as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled her closer to him. Desperate to get close to him, she traveled her legs up his body until they were locked around his waist. He tore his lips away, only to run tiny kisses along her jaw and then down her neck. “Something tells me it will be awhile till we go shopping.”
“Yep,” he said and then his lips found hers once more. Lance pushed her up higher as he continued to kiss her and carried her to the bed. They tumbled together on the bed and the rolled over until they were tangled in the sheets and Michele was sprawled on top of him.
He finally pulled back and they both breathed heavily as they looked at each other. Michele felt his warm breath fanning her lips and she closed her eyes when she felt his fingers brush through her hair. “I’m going to miss you like crazy,” he finally said in that deep voice of his.
“Don’t say that in the voice,” she finally said as she let out a shaky sigh. “You know what that voice does to me.”
“Michele,” he said huskily and waited for her to open her eyes. “I want to see you again.”
She smiled and then leaned down and kissed him softly. “Name the time and place and I’m there.”
