Jennifer Chambers collapsed on the couch in her small little bungalow. She was exhausted from her long trip,
but it was worth it to be here. She looked at her watch, which read that it was almost 7:00.
“Perfect,” she said out loud. She’d just hop in the shower and get ready for dinner and by the time she was ready, Peter would be here.
Jennifer walked through the doors to the bedroom. It wasn’t a big fancy bedroom, but she didn’t care. She
wasn’t a flashy person. It was a queen size bed with a headboard that looked like it could have been woven with straw. She plopped her suitcase on the bag and fished out her shampoo and all her other accessories. She quickly undressed and slipped into the narrow shower.
She grinned as she ducked her head under the hot
spray as she thought of Peter. He was so sweet to do this for her, after all that’s happened. She didn’t care what her mother or anyone else said; she loved him very much. Or at least she thinks she does. She had never been in love before, but Peter made her feel good. Yes, he was six years older than she, but she
was a grown woman. She’d be 20 in February.
Peter was mature and considerate. All the things her past boyfriends hadn’t been. He was studying to be a
lawyer and so obviously he was very busy. Which she understood, but sometimes she felt she was just a runner up with him. But she knew it was silly, and brushed it off. If she didn’t care for him, she wouldn’t of agreed to this trip.
She turned off the shower and heard the phone ringing in the other room. She quickly hopped out and wrapped a towel around her as she ran to the phone. “Hello?”
“Jen? Hey you made it.”
“Peter, hey,” she said. “I just got out of the shower. Are you almost home.” Peter was quiet on the other
end. “Peter? You there?”
“Jen,” he sighed. “I don’t know how to tell you this.”
“No...Peter you promised!”
“I know, baby, but something has come up. I tried to get out of it, but there’s no way. Look, there’s no
reason to let that beautiful place go to waste so you just stay there for the week. You need a little time off.”
“A little time?” she snapped. “Peter, I took a week off from school for you.”
“I know, and I appreciate that, but there’s nothing I can do. Just go ahead and relax there for a week. Have
fun, go horseback riding on the beach, you were excited about that.”
“I was excited about doing it with you.”
“I’m sorry, I really am. Oh crap, I gotta go. I’ll make it up to you. Bye.”
“I...” but before she could say anything he was gone. “Son of a...” she angrily slammed the phone down on the
hook.
All the way on the other end of the line, Peter hung up the phone and laid his head on the pillow. His
secretary curled up next to him. “Did she buy it?”
“Hook, line and sinker,” he chuckled.
She giggled, “she’s so naïve.”
“Most 19 year-olds are.”
Justin wrapped a towel around his waist after he dried himself off from his long hot shower. Since he was
alone and didn’t have to worry about cameras, he went ahead and walked to the kitchen area. He started to look through the cupboards to see if there was anything to eat but obviously you had to go the store or to the main house to eat.
“Looks like I’ll be getting dressed to go out after all,” he said with a sigh.
“Hello?”
Justin turned to see the girl that he saw earlier
standing by the door. “Damn girl, ever heard of knocking.”
“Oh!” she exclaimed when she saw him only dressed in a towel. “Sorry, I...um...just wanted to introduce myself.”
Justin watched her casually looking around at every thing but him. He chuckled. “That’s okay I... you know
you can look at me, I’m not naked or anything.”
“I know that,” she said as she crossed her arms. She then forced herself to look and she felt her knees turn to jelly. He wore a smile that could make any girl go weak to the knees. “Well, sorry I interrupted you, I’ll let you go.”
“Wait,” he said before she could go.
“Yeah, what?”
He grinned. “Well, you came over to introduce
yourself. Aren’t you gonna introduce?”
“Oh,” she let out a nervous laugh. “Of course, how silly of me. I’m Jennifer.”
He raised his eyebrows. “And?”
She let out a frustrating sigh as she slapped her
sighs. “And what?”
“Well, where I come from I usually shake hands when I meet someone.” He grabbed the knot of his towel that
was in place right below his belly with one hand and stretched out his other.
She smiled uneasily as she stepped forward and clasped his hands. She studied him real well. He had a familiar sense about him, but she couldn’t quite put a picture on it. He had ridiculously cute blonde curly hair and blue eyes that were almost as beautiful as the sea. “I’m Jennifer,” she finally said.
“Jennifer, I’m Justin,” he said with a grin. “Nice to meet you.”
She then pulled her hand away. “Well, now that we’ve been properly introduced I’ll let you get back to...uh... well, to whatever you were doing. Bye.”
Justin continued to stare at the empty doorway. He then let out a chuckle as he shook his head in amazement. This week is gonna be a unforgettable one, he thought to himself. That’s for sure.
The next morning, Justin woke up surprisingly early. He lazily lifted his tired head up and squinted at the
sun that shown in from the window. He let out a tired groan and buried his face in his pillow. He didn’t want to get up. Not just yet, and the fact that he could actually sleep as long as he wants had him grinning in his pillow.
He laid in his bed for a good twenty minutes, not
necessarily sleeping, but just laying in bed without moving a muscle. As soon as he had the strength, he finally slipped out of bed. With a yawn, he shuffled his way to the kitchen and was dying for a bowl of cereal and pulled out some that he got last night at the main house.
After he got a bowl he walked out on to the patio and stood at the edge of the steps. He was constantly
wiggling his bare toes as he shoveled in bite after bite of his cereal. He had no idea what he was gonna do today. And that thought right there made him smile.
While Justin was filling up his second bowl, Jennifer was next door getting ready for her morning run. She
always loved to run, especially when something was troubling her. Like right now. Peter ran through her mind again as she furiously tied her running shoes. Don’t think about him she demanded her self. He obviously was too busy to think about me, so by golly I’m gonna do the same.
With a satisfied nod of the head, she stood up and trotted out the door. She made her way to the surf and
when she got to the water she decided to jog to the right. She didn’t know how far she would run, it depended on how she felt. Usually, the madder she was, the longer she ran. So she had a feeling she was gonna be jogging for a while.
She kept jogging along the shoreline, while
occasionally looking out to the sea. Peter snuck in her mind way too much, but another person did as well, and it was the guy next door. Where had she seen him before, she pondered as she
turned around to go back. She couldn’t quite figure it out, but she knew there was something familiar about him. He probably just looked like someone she knew, she pointed out to herself. “Yeah, but if I knew someone who looked like that, I would never of forgotten him,” she said aloud.
With a sigh, she glanced out to sea one more time, with her mind wandering. His face kept going through
her mind over and over. Then it finally came to her. “Holy shit! He’s from...” but before she could get out the words, she tripped
over something. She let out a small cry as she fell and was expecting to hit the hard sand, but someone broke her fall.
“Ooof,” Justin grunted as someone collapsed on top of him. “What the... Jennifer?”
Still a little dazed, Jennifer pushed herself up with her hands and looked down to see Justin’s face looking
up at her. She had just tripped over Justin Timberlake from NSYNC and she was now lying flat on top of him. “I...I’m sorry, I wasn’t...”
“Paying attention obviously,” he finished for her with a grin. “What were you doing, running with your eyes
closed or something?”
“No, uh, I was just... my mind was just wandering.”
“I can see that,” he said as he continued to look up at her. He noticed that her long dark brown hair,
matched her chocolate brown eyes. She had the longest eyelashes too, it seemed to go on for miles. He cleared his throat. “Um, not that I’m not enjoying this or anything, but were you planning on ever getting off of me?”
“Oh!” she exclaimed as she quickly got up. “I’m
sorry.” He got up as well and dusted the sand off of his body.
“That’s okay. Surprisingly, I’m use to it.”
She let out a little giggle. “Yeah, I bet.”
He eyed her. “So, I take it you finally recognize me.”
She nodded. “Yeah, it took me awhile. I guess when we first met I was too...uh...” she was gonna say distracted
by him standing there wet and with nothing on but a towel. “Out of it,” she said instead.
He smiled when she turned red. “Uh-huh. Something you seem to do a lot I guess.”
She laughed nervously. “Yeah, I guess. Well, I’m gonna head back in, so...”
“Hey, wait!"
She turned around. “Yeah?”
“Are you here by yourself?”
She sighed. “Yeah, and it wasn’t planned that way.”
He stepped closer to her. “What happened?”
She waved it off with her hand. “Oh, my boyfriend just canceled on me. He was suppose to meet me here,
but...”
“Wait, wait,” he said as he held up his hands. “Let me get this straight. Your boyfriend planned this trip for the both of you and then just left you high and
dry?”
“Yep, basically. So you can imagine I’m not in the best of moods with him.”
“Yeah, and I don’t blame you.”
“It’s really not his fault, I mean he’s always so busy with work.”
“Well, I know how that is but I would never leave my girlfriend alone on an island.”
“Well, Britney is a lucky girl. Now if you’ll excuse me...”
“Woah, woah,” he said as he trotted towards her and grabbed her arm. “First and for most, I am not dating
Britney Spears. Secondly, I don’t have a girlfriend period, I was just speaking hypothetically. So, I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t talk to me like you know me, cause you don’t.”
She looked into his angry eyes and then at his hand that was still clasped around her arm. “Um, you’re
hurting me.”
He immediately loosened the grip but didn’t let go. “Sorry,” was all he said.
“I... I’m sorry Justin, I shouldn’t of said that.” She let out a frustrating groan. “I’m just so sick of him
bailing on me and I took my anger out on you. Look, you're obviously here to enjoy some privacy, so you won’t even know I’m here. Promise.” She turned to leave, but she found herself stuck when he tightened his grip on her arm. She looked at his
hand and then up at his eyes, which had softened. “Justin?”
“I’m sorry too,” he said. “I snapped at you for no reason. And I apologize.”
“It’s all right,” she finally said.
With that he finally let go of her arm. She gave him a little smile and started to walk off. “Oh, and Jennifer?”
She turned around and shaded her eyes with her hand. “Yeah?”
“Don’t be a stranger,” he said and gave her a wink. He let out a chuckle and then trotted back to the shore.
“Well, what do you know,” she sighed. “He is more than just a pretty face.”
