Chapter Eleven
"Angie!" he yelled as he ran to the edge dove on his stomach as he peered over. She was hanging on for dear
life. "Angie, hang on."
"JC, I'm slipping," she said as she tried to find
footing with her feet.
JC reached down with his arm. "Angie, take my hand."
She looked up at him. "I can't," she cried.
His tears started to fill his eyes, causing them to blur his vision. He blinked them away. "Angie," he said huskily. "Please, just take my hand."
"JC, if I let go I'll fall," she whimpered.
"No, you won't," he assured her. "I won't let you."
She felt her her hand slipping. "JC, I can't hold on," she said quietly and then looked in his eyes. "I...I
love you, JC. I always have."
"Angie," he pleaded as he tried to reach for her. "No, I won't let you die on me."
"I'm sorry," she said and she screamed when her grip lossened. She felt something grab her wrist and looked
up to see JC holding on to her. "JC," she pleaded.
"I told you I wasn't going to let you die," he said between his teeth as he hung on to her. "Now, you have
to help me, Angie....try."
She reached up her other arm and JC grabbed a hold of it. She began pushing herself up with her feet, using
all her strength to get back up. "You're almost there, Angie, just look at me," she heard him say. Angie looked up and concentrated on his focused blue eyes. "There you go, almost there."
JC pulled her up over the edge and once she was safe she collapsed tiredly on top of him. JC held her close
and heard her soft whimpers as she buried her face against his neck. "Shh," he said as he stroked her hair. "It's okay....you're okay."
"JC," she said shakily. "I thought I was going to
die."
He closed his eyes as the fear began to build inside him. He almost lost her, he realized. He almost lost
the woman he was born to love. "I know," he said and then gently cupped her face and pulled it back so she'd look down at him. "But you didn't. You're still here with me."
A tear slipped down her cheek and JC leaned up and
kissed it away with his lips. "Did you mean it?" he murmured against her lips.
She kissed him, knowing exactly what he meant. "Yes, I meant it. Every word."
He smiled. "I love you too, Angie. I think deep down I always have, I've just been to blind to see it."
"Me too," she said and the rested her head under his chin. "It was so clear when I was looking up at you,
seeing your eyes filled with fear for me."
He let out a shaky sigh. "I dont know how I managed to reach you, Angie. I mean one minute I see you falling
and the next I have you in my hands."
"I don't think God would of taken what we had away
after it took us so long to find it."
"Me either," he said and then kissed the top of her head. "And Angie?"
"Hmmm?"
"If I have to save your ass one more time, I swear I'm gonna pop you one!"
She let out a laugh. "Have I ever told you I'm
accident prone."
He chuckled. "Come on, Morgan," he said as he sat up. "Let's get back to the tent."
"Okay," she said as he helped her up, but when put
force on right ankle she collapsed in his arms.
"Woah, easy," he said. "You must of hurt your ankle pretty bad."
"Yeah," she winced. "I can put a little pressure on it, but not much."
"Okay, just lean on me and we'll take it slow."
She nodded. "Okay."
They took there time going down the slanted hill,
Angie leaning on him the whole way. It was in the middle of the afternoon when they got back to the tent and so JC made Angie rest while he got something to eat.
"JC?" she had finally asked after a long moment
of silence.
"Yeah?" he asked as he popped in a Frito.
"Do you think they'll ever find us?"
He sighed. "I hope so. I was thinking about actually leaving here, you know? I feel useless waiting here."
"Well, why don't we?" she asked.
"You can't with your ankle," he reminded her.
"I'm sure it'll be better by tomorrow," she said. "If it does then we can pack up and try to figure out a
way out of here."
"We'll see," he said and took a sip of water. "Chances are your ankle isn't going to feel better, but once it does we'll go."
She sighed. "Oh, all right."
He grinned and then cupped the back of her neck and pulled her in for a kiss. "But I love you for trying,"
he said and then gave her a wink.
She smiled. "I love you, period."
He smiled as he casually brushed a strand of hair out of her face. "I'm starting to like the sound of that,
Morgan. Wanna neck?"
She giggled. "Such a romantic," she teased as he eased her down on her back.
"I know," he said sheepishly and nibbled on her lips. "I'm a sucker for romance."
