Chapter Two
Angie woke up before she opened her eyes and winced when she felt a sharp pain in her head. What happened,
she thought warily as her eyes fluttered open. She had
her head down and when she lifted her head, it felt
like it weighed more than her body.
She couldn't remember anything. The last thing she
remembered was....JC. The way he looked at her when he
grabbed her hand. That's when it all flooded back to
her. There was a plane crash and she had survived. "Oh
god," she said all of the sudden and turned to JC.
"JC?"
His head was leaned against his seat and his eyes were shut. "Oh God, JC, no," she said frantically as she
felt for a pulse. She almost cried with relief as he
felt the rhythmic beat of his pulse beneath her
fingers. She tried to wake him up, but he wasn't
responding. "Okay, just hang on JC," she said as she
crawled over him and went to check on the other
passengers. She reached over them and felt for their
pulse at the same time. She shut her eyes in pain when
there was no life beating beneath her hands.
She bit her lip, as the tears started to fall as she checked on the pilot to find out he didn't make it as
well. A moan escaping JC's lips had her running to his
side. "JC?" she asked. "Please wake up. It's Angie."
"Angie?" he murmured as his eyes peeked open. "What happened?"
"We had a plane crash," she told him as she lightly felt his face, checking to make sure he was okay.
"Yeah," she said softly and noticed he was going back under. She clinched his jaw and turned his head
towards her. "JC, look at me. Don't slip away. I need
you, please I can't do this on my own."
He managed to keep his eyes open. "The....the others."
She felt a lump in her throt. "They didn't make it," she said as her voice cracked.
His eyes closed, but managed to open again.
"Angie...we....we need to get out of here."
"Okay," she said. "Come on, just lean on me....no JC," she said when he was going under. "Please stay with
me." JC's eyes were closed again and his body went
limp. "JC, please," she cried as she lightly tapped the side
of his face. "Come on, please."
He could hear her voice and wanted to open his eyes, but it was so hard. His eyelids were so heavy, his
whole body ached. Come on, JC, he told himself. Your
not going to survive if you give up now.
"There that's it," she said as he revealed his deep blue eyes. "JC can you hear me?"
"Yeah," he groaned and tried to sit up, but everything went black when the blood rushed to his head.
"Woah, just take it easy," she said. "One step at a time."
He rested his head back against the chair as he
fixated his eyes on her. He needed something to
concentrate on or he was afraid he would go back
under. He then saw blood running along the side of her
head. Forgetting he was in pain, he sat up. "You're
bleeding."
"Woah, it's okay," she said quickly. "Just relax."
"No, you're bleeding," he said as he gently pulled
back a strand of her hair to look at it.
"It's nothing," she assured him, surprised by his
gentle touch. "Just a scratch."
He looked at her squarely. "Angie, blood gushing out of your head is hardly just a scratch."
"Let's not worry about that right now," she said
quickly as she leaned back before he could touch her
again. His last touch made her heart skip a beat and
she didn't like it. "We need to get out of here first."
"You're right," he said as scooted up. "I'm feeling stronger now."
"Are you sure?" she asked.
He gave her a look. "Yes, I'm sure. I'm not the one with blood on the side of my face."
She rolled her eyes. "And he's back ladies and
gentlemen."
"Very funny," he said dryly as he stood up carefully.
"Let's just get out of here."
"Fine by me," she said and started to walk away but felt her knees turn to jelly.
JC quickly wrapped his arm around her waist when he saw her buckle. "Woah, easy," he said softly. "Looks
like that scratch is finally affecting you."
"I'm fine, I'm fine," she said as she pushed him away, but she wasn't. She fell against him again.
"Fine, my butt," he said as pulled her up against him. "Just lean on me." Since she had no choice in the matter she hung on.
They slowly made there way to the door and JC told her to lean against the wall as he opened it. It took him
a couple of tries to open it, becuase was still a
little weak. When it finally opened the sun was bright
and it made them both squint.
He looked at her. "It was night time when we went down right?" he asked.
She nodded. "We left at sunset and it was pretty late when we were going down."
JC peaked his head outside. They were in some kind of field. He was guessing the pilot saw it and was trying
to make an emergency landing. "Well, it's morning now
so God knows how long we were out." He went to her
side, wrapping one arm around her waist and taking her
wrist in the other and bringing it around his neck.
"You feeling better?"
"My legs are still a little rubbery."
"Well sit here and let me get down first. It's kind of high."
Angie peered down and her eyes widened. "KIND OF?"
"Don't worry it's not that bad," he said as he sat
down. "We must be on a hill or something, because the
rest of the plane is not far from the ground, just the
back of the plane."
"Can we get out any other way?" she asked.
He shook his head. "Nope," he said and then launched himself off. When he hit the ground he went to a squat
but didn't roll or fall. He straighted up and then
looked up at her. "Okay jump."
She shut her eyes as she nodded. She scooted her butt out as far as she could before she finally leaped off.
JC caught her, but still managed to loose his balance
and he fell backwards while he took her down with him.
"You know that wasn't that bad," she said as she
looked down at him.
He gave her a smirk. "Yeah, peice of cake," he
grunted.
She smiled down at him, but then all of the sudden
became aware of the feel of his body against hers and
panicked. "Sorry," she said awkwardly as she quickly
got up. She got up a little too fast and stumbled.
"Damn," she cursed as she bent over and rested her
hands on her knees.
He quickly got up and put a hand on her back. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," she said as she unfolded her body and
walked away.
He sighed. "Stubborn woman," he mumbled.
"What?" she asked as she whipped around.
"Nothing," he said as he held up his hands. "Look you rest here. I'm gonna go in the luggage compartment and
see if I can find any supplies."
She nodded as she sunk herself on to the grass. JC ran over to the plane and crawled up the small slope the
plane was on. He tried to open the compartment but it
was locked. He let out a soft curse, but then just
climbed higher to the pilots window. The window was
broken and his heart sank when he his body that was
only being held up by his seat belt. There was nothing
he could do for him or the other men, the only
important thing now was to keep Angie and him alive.
He lept up of the ground and leaned in the window. He could barely fit but he managed to reach the keys that
were danging from his pocket. He scooted back out,
landed on the ground, and headed to the compartment.
When he unlocked it, he expected it to just fall back,
but instead it nearly fell on top of him. "SHIT," he
exclaimed as he quickly rolled under the plane to
avoid the large peice of metal.
Angie quickly got up and ran over to him. "JC! Are you okay!"
JC crawled back out. "Yeah, I'm fine. Scared the crap out of me though, but at least it opened."
"You need a boost up there?"
"Nah, i think I got it," he said and then leaped up into the compartment.
"Damn, how does he do that," she said softly as she crossed her arms. She'd never admit it to him, but she
just happened to catch the HBO special and pretty much
couldn't of kept her eyes off of him. And when she saw
him lick the stage, she spit out her drink all over
her ex-boyfriend's face. He wasn't too happy either.
"Hey Angie?"
She lifted her head up. "Yeah? What?"
"Once you get back from where ever you were, would you mind moving a side so I can toss these packs down."
She rolled her eyes. "You could of just asked me," she said as she moved a side.
"I called your name about fifty times, stupid," he
said as he tossed down one of them men's hiking pack,
and then the other. "Now stop daydreaming and take
those back over there."
"Listen, JC," she said as she grabbed a hold of both packs. "Just because your the guy doesn't mean you can
boss me around."
"Whatever," he said and then disappeared back in the compartment.
Angie silently cursed him as she dragged the two heavy packs away from the plane. JC found his duffle bag and
a large floral bag that he assumed was Angies. He
grabbed them and without looking threw him ouside.
"HEY!! Watch it!" he heard her say.
He lifted his shoulders as he winced. "Sorry!"
"Yeah, sure you are," she shot back.
He just smiled. When he saw the cooler the two men had picked he quickly squatted next to it. Enough for us
to survive for a week, he remembered the guy saying.
He smiled sadly as he ran a hand over the top of the
cooler. "Thank you, guys."
