“Mer, sweetie are you almost ready?” Chris yelled up the stairs.
“Yeah,” she yelled out of her bedroom door. Chris had made plans to take her to IHOP with Justin, kind of as a ‘goodbye for now’ type of thing. She had decided that the other guys were great, but she was partial to the friend that her and Justin had made. He was just altogether a great guy, and he always knew how to make her feel good.
“Justin’s outside,” Chris yelled again. He was hoping that maybe that would hurry her up.
Mercedes grabbed her brush and ran it through her hair once more and then snatched her purse off of the bed railing and trotted down the stairs. “Sorry,” she said when she hit the bottom.
“It’s okay. Let’s go. I’m starving,” Chris said and opened the door to see Justin sitting in his car.
“Hey y’all,” Justin said as Chris opened the passenger door for Mercedes to sit in the front.
“Morning,” Mercedes said with a smile.
“It’s almost eleven girl! Not really morning anymore,” Justin teased.
“Well if she wasn’t a chic we could have left when breakfast should really be served,” Chris joked.
“Hey now,” she snapped in a friendly manner.
“I’m just hungry like you wouldn’t believe,” Chris added to try to make his previous remark suffice.
“I do know what you mean,” Justin laughed. “I still had my cereal this morning though.”
“Can you really not function without it? Or is it just a magazine tid bit?” Mercedes asked.
“I can’t move!” Justin exclaimed.
“And he’s an ass from hell to top it off,” Chris made sure to let her know.
Mercedes laughed and turned up the radio when she heard the song playing. “As I was walking by, saw you standing there with a smile,” she sang along with Janet.
“Bust a move,” Chris jolted from the back seat.
Mercedes looked back at him and laughed while he danced. “Come on baby let’s get away,” she giggled and rubbed Justin’s leg.
“Whoa now,” Justin jumped with a laugh.
Mercedes giggled, “Sorry!”
“Sure you are,” he laughed back.
“Don’t you go distracting him now,” Chris stated. “He’s got my life in the palm of his hands!”
“We’ll have a good time. Leave your worries behind,” she sang in the direction of Chris.
“Girl you’ve got some pipes on ya,” he smiled up at her.
She blushed at the comment. She was in such a good mood that she hadn’t even realized that she just belted out singing without the thought of who might hear her. “Whatever,” she said coyly.
“See what you missed the other day at the studio!” Justin said.
“Oh whatever. Stop,” she blushed again.
“You should join us girl,” Chris joked.
“Couldn’t bunk with JC that long,” she laughed.
“Valid point,” Chris smiled. “Oh well, it was worth a try.”
“Very true,” Justin smiled and pulled into the parking lot of IHOP. “Well, let’s go grub!” he smiled and unbuckled his seat belt.
“I’m in on that suggestion,” Chris said and opened the door to get out.
“Me too,” Mercedes smiled big and got out of the car to follow the guys into the restaurant.
“I’m stuffed,” Justin commented as he put his hands on his stomach.
“How do you think I feel?” Chris asked. “I ate twice as much as you did.”
“Y’all are both crazy. I only had half of what you guys did and I am full!” Mercedes added to the line of complaints.
“Oh well. It was good,” Justin said as he held the door open for the other two to walk through.
“I’m gonna agree on that,” both Mercedes and Chris said in unison and then laughed because they did.
“Ya know, I can’t wait till you get back Mer,” Chris said in a soft voice.
“Me too. I really love it here. You guys have totally made me love it too. If I would have come here knowing nothing and no one, I would still be trying to warm up to the place.”
Everyone got in the car and Justin put his hands on the wheel. “Well I’m just glad that Chris actually had a cool friend. Like besides the rest of us guys,” he laughed.
“Hey!” Chris yelled to the front.
“Thanks. I think,” Mercedes kind of said in a full voice.
“You’re welcome,” Justin laughed. “I totally mean it,” he started the car. “This month is gonna be lonely without your shinning face here.”
Mercedes blushed. “Thanks Justin.”
“Ah quit it already,” Chris mumbled. “You’ll be back before you know it. And J, you’ll call her I’m sure.”
“I’m sure I will. Gotta keep this friendship thing going,” he laughed.
“Definitely.” Mercedes turned toward Chris. “Ya know, it wouldn’t be a bad thing if you actually call me too.”
“I know. I know. And I will. Promise. But for now, let’s not talk about this. You’ve gotta leave soon, so let’s not spend the last few hours with you talking about you leaving.”
“I agree!” Justin said and continued down the street.
Just as Justin said that Chris’s phone rang. “Yo,” he answered it.
“Hey, it’s me. Jessica wants you guys to come over here with Mer.”
“Alright. J, we’re going to Lance’s place.”
“Alright,” he said and turned left instead of right.
“Be there soon. Bye,” Chris said and clicked his phone off. “Jessica is over there and wanted to hang out with ya before you leave I guess.”
“That’s great,” Mer smiled. She had really grown to like Jessica. Having a girl to talk to made things easier. After all, Bobbie sure wasn’t an option of girls to talk to.
“Mer! Hey girl!” Jessica squealed as Mercedes and the two guys walked in the front door. Before they got there, Jessica had been sitting on the couch looking at a magazine. She threw in on the coffee table and walked over to greet everyone at the door.
“Hey Jes,” Mercedes smiled back.
“I can’t believe you’re leaving today. Just as we were starting to get to know one another.”
“Yeah, no kidding,” Mercedes replied as she followed Jessica into the living room.
“Lance is out back you guys if you want to go see him,” she told Justin and Chris. The two of them had just knocked on the door and then let themselves in. They were all good enough friends that they tended to do that at one another’s houses quite often.
“Thanks,” Justin said. “We’ll leave you ladies alone for awhile.”
“Well, not like that,” Chris added his humor. “Yeah,” he smiled. “Uhm, we’re going now,” he quickly added when Jessica shot him a look to kill.
“So when do you leave?” Jessica asked Mercedes as she curled her leg up underneath her body.
Mercedes looked at her watch. “I gotta be at the airport in a couple hours,” she frowned.
“Don’t get too down girl. You’ll be back in a month. In an awesome house I’m sure. And with an awesome job!”
“Definitely,” she smiled. “I need to spend time with my father anyway. I haven’t spent real time with him in God knows how long. I totally miss him.”
“I bet. I don’t know if I could stay away from my family that long,” she confessed. “I’m such a daddy’s girl it is sad,” she giggled.
“Well, that is a good thing. As long as he likes Lance that is,” she smiled.
“Oh, he loves Lance.” She glanced out the back patio door and giggled at the site of the three guys rough housing around in the yard. “Of course, how couldn’t he?”
“I agree,” Mercedes added truthfully. She ran her hands through her hair and then leaned back against the couch. “Are all the weirdos going to the airport with me?” she asked Jessica.
“As far as I know. Yeah. I think that Chris planned on meeting up at his place with all of us before taking you to the airport, so I just assumed that we’d go with you all. Who knows though. If not, then they will all be at Chris’s before you go. Why?”
“I was just curious.”
Jessica raised an eyebrow. “You talked to JC since that incident at the party thing the other night?”
“No way.”
“What happened anyway? If I might ask that is. I don’t wanna pry.”
“I don’t know exactly. We were arguing slightly, as normal ... we were dancing ... I was just looking at him,” she stopped. She knew exactly why she went off and why she chose to stall at that specific spot in her explanation as well. She just wasn’t really ready to tell anyone. “I don’t remember.”
“Well, he’s a really great guy Mer. I wish that the two of you could put aside your differences for a little while and just get to know each other.”
“Yeah. Maybe someday. Just don’t hold your breath.”
“I won’t,” Jessica smiled.
Meanwhile the guys were outside carrying on their conversation. “So you guys are all going to stop by my place before I have to take Mercedes to the airport?”
“I’ll for sure be there,” Justin said.
“You know that Jessica and I will be there. I talked to Joey this morning and he said that he’d be there as well.”
“JC?”
“I’m not sure,” Lance said and grabbed the soda off of the table.
“He needs to get his head out of his ass for real,” Justin said in a harsh tone. “I just wish that I knew why the two of them can’t stand one another.”
“I have not the slightest clue.”
“Me either, but whatever floats their boat,” Chris added. “I don’t really care anymore I don’t guess. If they want to play like kids, then I say let them.”
“If you ask me, I think that they have some secret crush on each other.”
“Ya know, Jessica told me the same thing,” Lance said and looked in the house to see Mercedes and Jessica still sitting in the living room talking and laughing.
“I wouldn’t doubt it. This just isn’t JC’s style of picking up a chic,” Chris thought out loud.
“Different strokes with different folks,” Lance laughed as did the other guys.
“Well I think that we should go in and see what those ladies are talking about. I don’t trust them,” Chris joked.
“That makes two of us.”
“Three buddy,” Justin laughed and grabbed the handle of the sliding door.
The three guys made their way into the house and strolled over to the couch. Justin plopped himself on the couch in front of the TV and faced the girls. Lance placed himself on the arm of the couch next to Jessica and ran his fingers through her hair. Chris leaned up against the back of the chair situated across from everyone else.
“You guys want in on the girl gossip or what?” Mercedes teased.
“Totally!” Chris cheered loudly and clapped his hands like a child.
“Way too much,” Mercedes laughed. “You guys just missed it anyway. It’s bad luck to repeat the stuff we were talking about,” she smiled.
“Definitely,” Jessica smiled as well.
“Well that just isn’t fair,” Justin added in.
“Sure it is,” Mercedes said and stuck out her foot to lightly kick Justin in the leg.
“Hey,” she chuckled. “Keep your feet off of me.”
“Fine I won’t touch you anymore,” she said seriously and started to pull her foot away.
Justin quickly grabbed her ankle. “I didn’t mean it like that!” That simple comment and action alone made the whole room fill with laughter.
“Well, as much as I’d love to stick around and feel up on you, I really should get back and finish getting my stuff together and call my dad to make sure that he’ll be at the airport on time to get me.”
Chris straightened himself. “As the lady says,” he said and dug in his pocket for his keys, but then remembered that he hadn’t driven.
Justin hopped to his feet and pulled his keys out. “I’m driving you dork.”
“See what I gotta deal with?” Mercedes laughed at Lance. “I’m so glad that you’re normal.”
“I will pretend like I didn’t hear that,” both Chris and Justin surprisingly said at the exact same time.
“So we’ll see you soon though. Before you have to leave and all.”
“Definitely.”
“Well, have fun. Don’t forget where your eyes are supposed to be Timberlake,” Jessica teased Justin.
“Whatever Parker! We’ll check you later,” he said and grabbed the doorknob.
“Later man. See you soon Mer,” Lance said and held the door as the three walked out.
“Byes,” Mercedes giggled as she walked down the stone walkway to Justin’s car.
Jessica and Lance stood at the door and then waved as Justin pulled out of the driveway and took off down the road. “She’s really a sweet girl,” Jessica smiled up at Lance.
“I think so too,” he smiled back and then placed a soft kiss on her lips and then pulled her inside so he could shut the door.
A couple of hours later Mercedes yelled, “I’ll get it Chris!” as she ran to the door. She pulled the door open and found Justin standing there with flowers. “Awe, Justin. You really shouldn’t have.”
“Yeah well, I did. Get over it,” he smiled and handed her the boquet of carnations, something that he had found out was her favorite.
“So did you have a nice,” she glanced at her watch, “uh two hour break from Chris and I?” she giggled.
“Had to hurry right back because I missed Chris so much,” he laughed back. He stepped into the living room and found Chris standing in the kitchen.
“You missed me huh?” Chris smiled. “How sweet,” he joked. “Actually that’s sick buster. Get out of my house!” Everyone laughed at Chris’s sly comment. Chris opened the cabinet and pulled out the thing of OREOs. “Want?”
“Totally,” Merecedes said and slid herself onto the stood at the end of the counter.
“You’ve gotta get out of here pretty soon don’t you?” Justin asked.
“Yeah I do actually. Are you coming to the airport too, or no?”
Justin looked at Chris. “I think we’ll all just say our good byes here and let Chris take you. It might be a little more difficult if we all showed up at the airport together. Crazy teenies and all,” he answered with a smile.
“Yeah I guess so.” Just as she spoke she heard the doorbell ring again and then the door opened.
“It’s just me!” a voice yelled.
“Joe, my man,” Chris said as he saw Joey walking towards the kitchen. “What’s up?”
“Not a whole hell of a lot, surprisingly. Lance told me that we were all meeting here to say bye.”
“Yeah, Lance better hurry if he wants to join in on the festivities.”
“You guys are acting like you’ll never see me again! I’ve only been here for a week and I will be back in a couple more weeks.”
“Not our fault that Chris actually had a cool friend that we enjoyed spending the week with.”
“Thanks Joey,” she smiled. “I adore you guys too ya know.”
“We know,” Justin said full of air. He wasn’t stupid.
Chris checked his watch. “We should think about going. You need to get to the airport a little early ya know?”
“Yeah I know,” she said and glanced at the clock on the oven. “I’ll be right back. I’m gonna run upstairs and make sure that I didn’t leave anything. Mercedes stuck the OREO in her mouth and then shuffled her bare feet through the living room and up the stairs.
“These from you hot stuff?” Joey joked as he picked up the carnations from the table.
“Yes they are smart ass,” Justin said and took them from him. “Chris you got a vase?”
“You really got a thing for her don’t you?”
“No Joey I don’t. Mer and I are just friends. She’s an amazing girl and she deserves to be treated like it.”
Chris chuckled. “The vase is up there,” he said and pointed. “I think you’ve got it bad actually.”
“I’m not gonna lie. I’m attracted to her, but we have already talked and a relationship isn’t what she wants right now. If you really want to know... I think that she has some sort of hidden desire for C and they just are clashing right now.”
“You really believe that mumbo jumbo?” Joey laughed.
“Yes I do. I know that they argue and she says she can’t stand to be near him, but I have seen the way that she looks in his eyes. Even if they are yelling at each other, she’s still looking straight into his eyes. I personally think that JC is a fool for not seeing it himself. I would give anything to have her look at me that way.” Justin sighed and looked at the guys. They were just staring at him. “Look, I guess that I just want to see her happy. Chris you should see where I am coming from here.”
“I do actually. I just didn’t know that you cared liked that. You’ve known her for a week J.”
“Strange huh? And the stranger thing is that I want her to hook up with JC. He can be a prick sometimes, but he deserves better than Bobbie.”
“I hear ya.”
“I got it all,” Mercedes said as she walked back down the stairs.
“We can’t hear you!” Chris yelled.
“I GOT IT ALL,” she yelled. Just as she passed the door, she heard a knock. She turned quickly and smiled when she saw Jessica and Lance. “Hey!”
“Sorry we’re late. I couldn’t find my keys,” Lance said.
“And he refused to take my car,” Jessica toyed.
“Whatever,” he snickered.
“I was just pulling together all my stuff. We’re about to head out.”
“Sorry we didn’t get here a little sooner,” Jessica said and shut the door behind her.
“It’s alright.”
“Is everyone else here?” Lance asked just before they reached the kitchen.
“Yeah. Well no JC, but does he really count?” Mercedes said in a serious tone.
Lance couldn’t believe JC sometimes. He was probably sitting at home all cozy with Bobbie and didn’t care that his friends had asked him to come say goodbye to Mercedes with them. “It’s alright. He’s no fun anyway,” Lance laced an arm around her and followed her into the kitchen.
On the other side of town JC leaned against the couch with his neck tilted to the side. Bobbie sat next to him and ran her finger tips over the side of his strong neck. JC’s eyes were shut and he was enjoying the delicate touch of Bobbie’s fingers against his skin. He was stressed and all he wanted to do was relax.
“Do you want to go upstairs?” Bobbie quietly hinted.
“Uht uh,” he declined with his eyes still shut.
“But baby,” she said and traced her lips over the same spot that her fingers had just been.
“Bobbie I just wanna sit here,” he softly mumbled.
“Fine,” she sighed.
“I’m tired Bobbie.”
“I know.”
“Don’t get all pissy now please,” he said and opened his eyes.
“I’m not,” she said in a harsh tone.
“Yes you are,” he sat up.
“Jace,” she started.
“Is this relationship all about sex to you? Cause you get all pissed if for some reason I don’t feel like hoping in the sack with you.”
“I can’t believe you just asked me that.”
“Maybe if you didn’t act like it eighty percent of the time I wouldn’t.”
“What the hell crawled up your ass JC?” she snapped. “You’ve been a prick all week. Is it because of Chris’s whore of a friend?”
“No, it has nothing to do with her. And her name is Mercedes and I think she is far from a whore Bobbie. Get your shit straight.”
“You like her don’t you?” she pulled back.
“Oh man don’t start this,” he stood up.
“Give me a straight answer Joshua.”
Just as JC was about to spit out another hot comment he glanced at the clock. “Oh shit,” he exclaimed.
“That’s not the answer I was looking for JC,” she said as she watched him hurry to put on his shoes. “Where are you going?!” she yelled.
“I totally forgot that I was supposed to be somewhere like ten minutes ago. It’s gonna take me fucking fifteen minutes to get there and the guys are gonna be pissed at me.”
“Where are you supposed to be?”
“You’d only get pissed if I told you,” he said and then hurridly ran to the door and jolted out it. He raced to his car and got inside. As he started the engine he took out his cell phone.
“Hey loser. I’m not here now. Maybe I am actually. Honestly I don’t know. Do you? Let me know,” Chris’s voice mail said.
“Shitface, answer the damn phone,” JC cursed as he waited for the phone to beep. “Chris it’s C. I totally forgot. I’m on my way now. Sorry.” JC clicked off his phone and stepped on the gas. It wasn’t a matter that he wasn’t going to get to say goodbye to Mer, it was the principal that his friends asked him to be there and he wasn’t. The guys stood before any chic and he didn’t want to screw that up over the way that he and Mercedes continually fought.
JC stared at the road and knew that there was no way that he'd make it to Chris's place before they left. He figured that he would just have to try to meet them at the airport. He took the required exit and sighed as he tried to think of a good way to explain why he wasn't there when he was supposed to be. Really his only reason was that he plain forgot. Hopefully that would work for the guys.
“Man I am never gonna find them,” JC said as he pulled his hat a little lower on his head. “This is great.” JC looked around the crowded airport and prayed that no one would recognize him. He finally gave up his search and went to one of the desks. “Hi, my friend is flying out of here and I don’t know what gate she is at.”
“What airline is she on?”
“Shit,” he said under his breath. “I don’t know,” he shook his head.
“Do you know where she’s going sir?” the lady asked.
“Yeah, uhm... non stop to.. uh... shit.... Pennsylvania. Yeah Pennsylvania.”
The lady at the desk pushed a few keys on her keyboard and then read from the screen. “We have a flight on American Airlines that is going straight to Pennsylvania in twenty minutes.”
In his head he figured the times and decided that that flight sounded accurate in the time that Mer was supposed to leave. “What gate?”
“Gate twelve,” she said and pointed in the direction of a long hall to the other side of the airport.
“Great,” he sighed. “Thanks,” he said and then made his way through the crowd to the direction of gate twelve.
“Flight 1402 non stop to Pennsylvania is now boarding at gate twelve,” JC heard over the loud speaker.
“Shit,” he cursed. He was for sure going to miss seeing Mer off, but he hoped that he’d be able to find Chris so that he could prove that he did show up. JC pushed his way through people and saw the big number twelve hanging from the cieling. “Chris!” he yelled hoping that Chris would hear him and give away where he was at.
“Bye Mer,” Chris said and gave her a hug.
“I’ll be seeing you soon so don’t you worry,” she smiled as she hugged him back.
“Chris!” JC yelled again.
“Who the,” Chris said and pulled off of Mercedes.
“Is that JC?” Mercedes asked in a surprised tone.
“Sounds like it.” Chris turned and saw a tall JC looking over the crowd. “C!” Chris yelled back. He couldn’t believe that JC was wondering around the airport yelling for him.
JC heard Chris and spotted him and Mercedes standing at the terminal. “Dude,” he said all out of breath when he got to them.
“In a hurry there buddy?” Chris laughed.
“No kidding,” he huffed.
“I... should...” Mer said as she pointed towards the terminal.
“Right. Uh have a nice flight,” JC said quickly.
“Uhm, thanks,” she said back a bit confused.
JC shifted all his weight to one foot and just looked at her. “Yeah,” he said quaintly.
“Well I’ll be,” Chris said. He wasn’t sure what had just happened. “Uhm yeah so Mer, give me a ring when you get in so I know you got there safely.
”
“I will. Thanks. Bye you two,” she said and then handed the lady her ticket. She looked back at the two guys and smiled before she found her way down the hall to the plane.
Chris hit JC in the arm. “Bro, what was that all about?”
“I didn’t want y’all to think I was an ass for not showing up at your place. I plum forgot dude.”
“Well I am glad that you had enough sense to make it here buddy. I’m sure that it made Mercedes happy even if she won’t admit it. And though YOU wouldn’t admit it, I know you are glad you got to say bye.”
JC gave him half of a smile, but said no words to match his action. “Wanna go back to your place and have a drink?”
“Definitely dude. Let’s go,” Chris said and pushed JC ahead of him.
“I want you to know that I only came to prove to you guys that I wasn’t a jerk. I know that that’s what you all think of me right now. It’s not my fault that Mer and I don’t get along ya know.”
“Jace, buddy, cool it man. We’ve all established that you and Mer don’t get along and that it isn’t anyone in particular’s fault. I admit that I wish you two didn’t fight, but I can’t make the two of you buddy buddy either. The guys and I just didn’t like that you kind of blew off the get together because it was for Mer.”
“But..,” JC started to say.
“I know. But you didn’t mean it. What happened at home anyway?”
“Nothing,” JC sighed.
“I’m listening if you wanna talk C.”
“Bobbie and I just got into it again. I think that we just need some away time alone or something. We are both on edge and getting on each other’s nerves. I think that her going home tomorrow will be good for us.”
“How long is she gonna be gone?”
“Well I think that I’m gonna tell her that I’ve gotta do some things. Maybe for like two weeks. Then I can go out to her place and chill there for a little while. I want to go see Dale in Cali too, so I can have my own little vacation of sorts. One away from her, and then one there with her.”
“Don’t bitch slap me or anything, but I really don’t know what Bobbie has that keeps you two together. You fight all the time. She obviously doesn’t have a whole lot of faith in you either C.”
“I don’t know what it is Chris,” JC said and took a sip of his beer and looked over at the pool. “I like knowing that she knows how I have to live my life and how busy I can be at times. I don’t want to have to go through teaching it to someone else.”
“Maybe it would be worth it though.”
“I don’t know.”
“Well we’ll all do something this week while she’s gone. Just us guys. We’ll drag Lance away from Jes for awhile, and tell Joe and Justin that we’re gonna go party or whatever.”
“That sounds like a deal to me. By the way you better be sure to let them know that I hauled ass to the airport to see Mercedes off.”
Chris laughed. “I’ll let them know.”
“You better.”
“I’ll be sure to tell them that you aren’t really all those bad words that they were saying you were.”
“I’m not even gonna ask,” JC chuckled. “Let’s go inside and see what kind of sports are on,” he changed the subject and stood up.
“Sounds good. Come on,” Chris said and then grabbed the rest of the beers off of the table in the back yard, so he could bring them back into the kitchen.
JC and Chris found themselves something to watch on the TV and then sat there for an hour before JC decided that he should go back home and tame the wild beast. He was sure that Bobbie was having a royal fit by then. The two guys made plans for some stuff to do the next week and then Chris saw JC to the door, then went to his room and plowed himself onto his bed for an early nights rest.
“Where the hell have you been?” Bobbie asked JC as soon as he walked in the front door.
“I was out,” he answered. He didn’t want to get into it with her right then but he kind of figured that it was going to be hard to avoid.
“Where JC?”
“I was out with Chris. What are you, my warden?” he snapped.
Shock took over Bobbie’s face. She couldn’t believe that he had just said that to her. “Why didn’t you tell me that before you took off earlier?”
“Because I was late.”
“For what?”
“Does it matter?”
“Yes it does. I asked you a question and I want an answer.”
“Because I was supposed to be somewhere that the guys asked me to be at and I wasn’t there. So I had to haul ass just to save face with them. I don’t need to have them mad at me for something that I just totally forgot about.”
“You guys aren’t doing anything important right now. What was so important that they would get mad at you for if you didn’t show up?”
JC knew that this was going to come up. “Bobbie...” he started.
“You went to see that Mercedes chic off didn’t you?” she stammered.
JC walked over to Bobbie. He held out his hands and placed them at her elbows. “Yes I did Bobbie. The guys all wanted to be there when she left and they wanted me there too. I didn’t make it to Chris’s place in time so I had to go to the airport to catch Chris just to prove that I wasn’t just blowing the whole thing off.”
“Don’t pull this crap with me JC,” she snapped and pulled her arms away from JC’s reign.
“Pull what?!” he yelled. “It’s the God’s honest truth. I’m sorry that you have so little trust in me,” JC sneered and then walked over to the couch. He looked at Bobbie and then licked his lips. “I think we need to take a few weeks away from eachother,” he said and then looked down.
“Are you breaking up with me?” Bobbie asked in a quiet tone.
“No, I just think that we need some away time right now. We are getting on each other’s nerves.”
Bobbie didn’t know what to say to him. She agreed partly, but she didn’t want him to think that he would always get his way. “Yeah,” she finally said. “I think we do need some time apart.”
“I’ll come out to Cali to see you in a few weeks alright,” he said looking back up at her.
“Okay,” she sighed. “I’m gonna go get some of my stuff packed. Can you call the airport for me?” she said in a surprisingly calm manner.
“Yeah,” JC answered and grabbed the phone off the cradle. “I’ll do that for you,” he sighed and then dialed the number which he had grown familiar with. It seemed like he was always calling the airport for one reason or another.
“Thanks,” Bobbie curled her bottom lip and then turned on her heels to go upstairs. She was ready to go home and have some peace. She loved JC, but she too needed her time away from him. It would only be a few weeks anyway. She could deal with that easily and she knew that JC could too.
