chapter thirteen

Ellie was plowing her way through the mounds of paperwork on her desk when the phone rang. "Hello?" she asked when she picked it up.
"Ellie, it's Ha-" she hung up the phone before he could say anything else. She wasn't ready to talk to anyone yet. The phone rang again.
"Harry, I'm not talking to you!" she yelled and then hung up the phone, again.
"Damn it," Harry muttered, as he hit re-dial. "She better not hang up on me again."
The phone rang again. Ellie picked it up.
"Ellie! Don't hang up the phone!" Harry said, before she could.
     "What do you want Harry?"
"I need to talk to you."
"If this is some ploy to get me back there, you can forget about it!"
     "It's not, I promise. It's just that, Will's been -"
"Harry, I don't want to talk about him, all right?"
"Ellie, please! He looks miserable! He's not eating, he won't talk to anyone, he sat in the same position, staring out the window for almost six hours! Come on! Please, just talk to him!" Ellie had tears in her throat.
     "I can't Harry, he's my patient, I just can't! I made a terrible mistake!"
"Falling in love with my brother was a mistake?" he asked, his voice showing hurt.
"No, I didn't mean it like that! You know I didn't!"
"Then what did you mean?" he asked, softening. "He loves you! He needs you, and he doesn't need anyone!" Ellie was crying and she could tell that Harry was too. "Just come back, talk to him, see him, then if it's still not right then you can go, all right?"
"I'll think about it." She hung up the phone and called Bernice into her office.
