What is
a Social?
Socials were originally created by New Yorkers a few years ago as an alternative
to club dancing. In Socials, the music is focused on Salsa (99% and 1% other
Latin dances), relatively cheap, do not serve alcohol and in a non-smoking
environment. People can mingle, have fun and dance. These events are not very
crowded as they are very dance-oriented and promote Salsa talent. This pooling
together and sharing philosophy create an exhilarating atmosphere. Socials
are parties held by dancers at studios, halls, community centres, etc.
Is there a need for Socials in Toronto?
Yes, we believe Toronto is finally ready. Dancers all prefer to dance in a
location that is not too busy - friendly -- smoke free - no alcohol, with
95% Salsa music with a bit of Cha Cha mixed in for a breather.
Why has Fiesta Productions decided to host a Social?
With the popularity of Salsa growing larger every day in Toronto, we at Fiesta
Productions have decided to host Socials as an alternative to club dancing.
Many dancers are now looking for an alternative to the regular crowded club
scene which can't or doesn't always cater to what hardcore dancers would like
to see in a club. As we have found from our NY cousins, the popularity of
Socials have picked up dramatically and are now as popular as an alternative
from the local clubs by the dancers/perfomers/instructors.
The environment is clean, and because the setting is more intimate -- people
can mingle, have fun and dance.
These events are very dance oriented and usually promote Salsa talent.
For all of these reasons, we feel that socials will be as popular here in Toronto as they have been in New York City.
