Port Goalscorers John Elliot, Grant
Paterson and Scott Peter.
This was the massive boost Port needed ahead of next weekends OVD Scottish Cup Final. Having already played Lochee four times this season without a win Port went into this game as outsiders. Tayport were quick on the attack forcing two corners with the United keeper Ian Ross forced into a diving save from a Ralph Hunter powerful shot. It was Lochee who opened the scoring in what was their first attack of the match. Super solo effort from Tommy King inside the Port goal area running at the Port defence and slotting the ball home past keeper Frazer Fitzpatrick. Tayport replied on the 35th minute mark with a superb cross to the back post from Ross Gunnion. Grant Paterson sent in a cracking header leaving the Lochee keeper stranded. The second period was a low key affair with Lochee looking a bit sharper in the early stages. Tayport started to move forward, probing the United defence but failing to take what chances fell their way. One goal either way would have settled it but extra time always looked on the cards. Extra time it was and Port were quickly on the attack down the right. A cross ball was held up by Brian Craik who looked up to see Scott Peters alone in front of goal. A quick pass and the ball was slotted home. John Elliot wrapped it up in the second period of extra time. |
