Locate an article in The Desert Trail or the Hi Desert Star that describes a cause and effect event. (Example: a person recieves an award BECAUSE they volunteered the most hours. Look for hint words like because, since, therefore, due to)

1. Write the Headline of your story:
 
 
 

2. What is the cause and effect of your story? (There can be a series of causes and effects in some stories!!)
 
 
 

3. Was there a cause that was completely unavoidable? ( a tornado, wind, storm, etc.)
 
 

4. What cause was due to the action of the people involved? (driving too fast, etc.)
 
 
 

5. Was there a point where the person involved could have made a better choice and changed the outcome of the story? ( decided to drive slower on a slick road, etc.)
 
 
 

6. Now - re-write the ending of the story by changing the "cause" at the point where the person could have made a different choice. You can do this even if the "cause" was a natural disaster (Could the people have ben better prepared for the disaster, or reacted differently?) Be creative and have some great "effects". Your writing must be at least 10 sentences long.
