Test your sense of "voice".

Read one line at a time.
Try to guess which photograph shows the person who wrote this paragraph:

What a  way to end the day!
Why couldn't Mary be here? 
I wish she could hear the crowds.
They know I can make this shot!
I know I can make this shot!

 
 I can feel it in the ball!

 

What does all of this have to do with voice? Well, when you are writing, your "voice" needs to communicate your personality to the reader. Your reader should be able to picture your character in their minds. If they cannot do this, your writing does not have a good "voice".
