Boxwood pioneer cemetery is located between 3310 Boxwood Drive and 3330 Boxwood Dr. in sleepy little Southport off of Mcfarland Rd. in Perry Township, Indiana.
I visited today June 8, 2000 and found one upright headstone, SARAH FEASTHERSTON d. 1869, behind a tree hidden from view in what appears to be a double empty lot in a not to old subdivision.
I was told by a neighbor that the headstone was located originally 20'away from where it is now broken and lying flat down. Whats extremely interesting here is that there is almost certainly a lot more gravesites here buried below the surface awaiting a hugh beautiful pioneer cemetery restoration. This pioneer cemetery site has great neighbors, one whom is especially helpful. Bill is a History teacher and was extremely helpful to me. He describes the cemetery site five years ago when he first moved in as strewn with broken headstones, and then suddenly they were all gone. Where did all the markers go for these pioneers whom helped settle this Indiana frontier? Thus far Bill and I are the only ones searching for answers. Volunteers are desperately needed for research. Information on the history of this once large farm land before the housing development would help greatly as would the name of the developers whom would certainly have documents of this area.
I came back again on June 10, 2000 and measured the cemetery lot which appears to be 129' long x 150' wide. I located more pieces of headstones under the big tree near the only upright but was unable to make a reading. I took a lot of pictures today and will make another page to display them.
