I was livin' at the bally ol' mountain for many seasons, with me badger lord, Russano the Wise, his wife, Roselaun, and their two children.  Firstly, it is a widely known fact that two full grown badgers of the same gender can't stay in the same spot for long, so the children left home.  Then, the sad part happened.  Me and most of the hares were away, patrollin' after some wicked stoats.  When we got back, both Russano and Roselaun were dead, each surrounded by twoscore mangled vermin carcasses.  The single hare survivor told me what had happened.  "While you were away, a searat ship landed on our shores.  The leader, a crafty one, challenged both Russano and Roselaun to a one-on-one duel.  When they came out of the mountain and into the open shores, they were rushed by a hundred vermin.  The hares ran to help them, but it was too late, they were both slain.  We fought them and won, if you call everybeast on both sides dying winnning.  I was the only one left."  Being Russano's second in command, I assumed the leadership position.  Now, I think it is only a matter of time before Russano's son returns.  And I pray for it.

As the old tale goes, all Badgers eventually wander to the great fire mountain, Salamandastron. I was born many years ago. My mother's name  is forgotten, but my father I remember was named Rockfir. He died defending me as a babe from Rapscallion Hordes in our cave along the sea. I was captured and enlisted as a slave for many years. I finally broke free, using my own chains as weapons. I slew two score soldiers and many capitans until I broke free and wandered in Mossflower words, unarmed and frightened. I built a house of trees, where I set up a "blacksmith" if you will, where I foraged my great sword. But I still had a yerning to go southwest. Finally my adventuring heart allowed me to depart, and I left the woods in the midst of Redwall. I had never heard of it, but the folks there were kind and served me food and helped me prepare for my long journey to my destination. They seemed to know better then I did where I was going, but none would give me a hint but a young Dibbion, who, as I left, screamed, "Mommie! He's off to the mountain, isn't he? The mountain!" I wandered for many days, embarking on many adventures, but none that a full grown badger could't overcome. Then, one day, while I was walking on the beach, I saw our mountain, Salamandastron. I was filled with awe, and also with accomplishment, as if I had finally arrived. I quickly hurried to the mountain and met Tammo, who was willing to let me enlist in his Long Patrol. I served as a warrier until I finally became Tammo's second in command. Now I help guard the mountain from vermin, and serve my leader Tammo to the death!
