A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Another year has passed since the founding and organization of the Filipino Canadian Heritage Society of Nova Scotia. For two years we have shared a lot of fun and experiences especially during the summer. Summertime was when our families came closer together and shared many outdoor activities, including trips to parks and new places. However, our activities did not stop there. Our "Glee Club" was busy performing at various senior citizens' and nursing homes. We had a lot of fun singing, dancing and sharing our culture with other people especially the seniors. The number of invitations for performances by the Glee Club was overwhelming at times, but the members managed to perform and contribute their valuable time in spite of their own personal hectic schedules.

Last year we had 15 performances in different places and every member was inspired to sing and share his/her talents. Indeed, the performances helped build self-confidence and stage presence in every member. No more shy gals or guys! Just to give an example: Danny Cruz used to be so quiet before the Glee experiences. Now, Danny "Sinatra" can sing all night and hug the microphone if we let him. Also, I have to give a salute to our two young members Jessie and Nikki Sison for the great joy they brought to the seniors by their delightful performances. Not too many kids can sing in front of a crowd so we should give them a big applause.

All these activities brought every member even closer to each other. We thank Dr. Nellie Sarkar for these experiences for she started it all. We also have to thank our songs coordinators (Felisa, Gloria, Edna), keyboard accompanists (Cecille, Tessa, Raul) and soloists (Luz, Danny, Ramon, Tessa, Glo, Edwin) and every member who contributed his/her valuable time and talents. We also have to thank our volunteer students Nestor and Filipina who joined us and participated eagerly even when they were very busy with their studies. So, I should say congratulations to all for the achievements we had last year and thank you for all your support especially for giving your precious time for practices.

I know it can be tiring sometimes especially when we just come home from work or we have to work on the following day. However, we somehow managed our time and we did it!

Let us explore our talents, expertise and continue to contribute our time for our upcoming activities and be a part of the action. You will find it fun and rewarding when you see the seniors' happy faces, their enjoyment and appreciation and especially, when they asked for more. THANKS again for the job well done and your commitment and for the show of force. That's the "Glee Club" spirit.
