The Academic Look International Film Festival
2001
- The Mysterious Other:
Alienation and Disability in Cinema
May 30 - June 3 Lisbon Portugal
The Academic Look International Film Festival (TALIFF) was created to fill an existing void in the circuit of international film festivals. It is a thematic festival, each year dedicated to a specific and novel subject, brought forward and debated by the combined mediums of Cinema and Academia. In 2001 we are addressing The Mysterious Other: Alienation and Disability in Cinema, a study of its representations throughout the history of Cinema.
The Lusófona University of Lisbon, an institution that takes great pride in the high level of quality of its academic programs and cultural events, hosts and sponsors TALIFF.

As in 2000 - The Feminine Look: Women in Literature and Cinema, this year we will show films, recent and old, from directors of all countries, gathered under the main topic and/or the various special sections. Additionally, we invite directors and guest speakers - critics and teachers, scholars, members of the media, Cinema lovers, etc. - to make presentations and contribute to the discussions with their specific perspectives.
For the directors who wish to present their films personally, the festival offers meals and hotel accommodations for 3 days. We are confident that it will be a rewarding experience for Cinema lovers and scholars to meet in such a relaxed and picturesque atmosphere as Lisbon.
