Lost In Space Vol. 3 marks as the seventh installment of "The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen" series. This volume features music from two more episodes of the TV series: "The Derelict" and "My Friend Mr. Nobody". The latter one was scored by John Williams. Unlike film scores, TV scores usually don't have a strong thematic content. They work great for the episodes but are not that enjoyable when being listened alone. The same can be said to the music of the two selected episodes. I am not a fan of the TV series and not to mention knowing nothing about the selected episodes. But from the insert notes, it seems that the fans want to hear the music from them the most. The sound quality is as mediocre as the previous two volumes. However, we should feel fortunate just for the fact that the music is preserved. We can't really ask for more. The music styles are similar to the ones of the previous two volumes. There are tracks that enjoyable just for a straight listening purpose, like "Writing In The Log/Family," "Flashing Lights/Frontal Robotomy," and "Lift Off". But there are not too many of them. There is a six notes motif that is used repeatedly in the music of "My Friend Mr. Nobody" but it is not very dominant. You can hear some vintage John Williams style in "My Friend Mr. Nobody" but the general tone of the music is not very much different from "The Derelict." Since I can't associate the music with the imagery, the music is no doubt less enjoyable to me than some other people. If you are just a regular film music fan like me, this CD may not be your first choice. But if you are a fan of the series or enjoy the previous two volumes, there is no doubt that you should pick this one up. | |
