MacOS X
The next generation 'modern OS' from Apple, featuring an ultra sleek GUI (Aqua) with OpenGL and pdf technology utilised on OS level, three API's that allow smooth transition from OS 9 (Classic, Carbon, and Cocoa) and a rock-solid core OS based on Unix (Darwin) which brings all the buzzword into the Mac platform (pre-emptive multi-tasking, protected memory, multi-threading). This is a very exciting time for Mac-addicts around the globe! There are worries, however. The new GUI may look more like a NeXT OpenStep desktop than a Mac one. The Unix file system brings confusing system files, and trouble shooting may have to be done in command line.

Customise ya Mac!

One of the most enjoyable things about using a Mac is its ability to be fully customised to your aesthetic needs... so make use of these!
Soundsets - System event enabled sounds. Drag these over the System Folder and click 'OK' to have them placed in the right place. Use the 'appearace' control panel to change your soundsets. Have fun!

Desktop Pics - These are cross-platform.When you've downloaded them, place them inside the 'appearance'-'Desktop Pictures' folder inside the system folder, them select them using the 'appearance' control panel.
    • MacDesktops - Download a bunch of Mac-centric Desktop Pictures (not 'wallpapers'... doesn't make sense to have wallpapers on a desktop surface... don't you think?).
    • Tranquility - My favourite sets of Desktop Pictures. Mainly landscape photography.

Apple - Need I explain? OK OK... this is THE site for all things Mac (after all, they make'em...). There are services such as iTools (where you can download Mac-only utilities for the web, get free 20MB space online, and even make homepages!), iReview (A quality 'reviewing' page of internet sites so you'll never run out of places to go), QuickTime (check out my 'neat stuff' page) and iCards (really nice e-cards). You can even buy Macs from the store. Also check out their eNews!
Iconfactory - One of my favourite sites. You can find tons of icons and other goodies for your Mac, as well as news, software highlights and variety of interesting and useful links... all with a neat 'icon' animation at the top!
MacAddict - As the name suggests, a site for Mac fanatics!
Mac Central - The most visited Mac site, apparently. Provides breaking news, colomns and readers' forums, as well as its own newsletters.
ResExcellence - A site dedicated to 'improving' the system with ResEdit, Apple's own resource editor.
Emulation.net - The best Mac emulation site on the 'net!
