Voice Control your Mac!

for FREE! :P

You may have seen some software which can dictate your speech, and voice control the system, just like you would with the StarTrek computer (well, close). With IBM's ViaVoice and MacSpeech's iListen, you could do just that. However, a lot of Mac users do not realise that they already own a set of speech recognition software already, usually called (appropriately enough) "English Speech Recognition", also known as PlainTalk. It isn't installed by default, so you have to click 'custom' during the System installation and make sure you have the checkbox ticked.

Now, as good as PlainTalk seems to be by itself (especially when you command it to "tell me a joke"), it can be even better. And, for free! The makers of iListen, MacSpeech, has been generous enough to write a freeware app' called ListenDo, which expands PlainTalk's capabilities and allow you to control menu items as well.
