Dear Flyers Member,
Welcome to the Flyers Cycling Club! It is hard to believe we are beginning the third year of the Flyers organization. The Y2K-1 (1999) cycling season is just around the corner and should prove to be a very exciting year for our club.
I would like to begin my first President's Message by thanking Randy Coleman for the exceptional work he has done for the club. Randy was instrumental in establishing the club and served two terms at the controls as President. Many countless hours has been spent by Randy supporting and participating in all aspects of various club functions. Thanks again Randy ... and don't think this implies that you are free from more work.
The Flyers Cycling Club was originally created with a primary goal to promote all types of cycling in a positive manner. As our membership form says, "The Flyers Cycling Club is dedicated to having fun!" Your participation is critical to the success of this goal. Your comments and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. The club will constantly adjust to allow for growth and improvement.
We have already begun this improvement process. In the last month, we have added equipment and have made the club more permanent. Through the sponsorship of Northwest Parts and Sales, we have added two new gas powered trimmers. This equipment will allow the MTB trail crews to maintain and create off-road trails. We have also given the club a permanent address (see beginning of message). This will allow our club to have a consistent location for all correspondence.
For 1999, the club will again be involved with race teams and race promotions. The club will place a strong emphasis on the Masters road race team. I intend to establish a MTB race team of various levels from beginner to expert, and would like to see the start of a Juniors (ages 12-15) program. These teams will receive some well needed order to insure continued successes. The club will continue to promote the required USCF and NORBA sanctioned events, as well as, the local Spring MTB Series. Organized MTB night rides and other activities are also being discussed and with enough volunteers, these events may become reality.
The membership is about you, the member. This club is for you to make things happen that you feel would benefit the sport of cycling. We encourage you to get involved, lead a group on a new road bike route, make a new mountain bike trail, contribute a story to the Flyers web site, whatever your interests may be. You will have the support of the club and its' resources.
Ride On ...
Sincerely,
Greg Turpen
Flyers President
