A long time ago, in a beautiful land far away lived a little dragon named Frizzle.
One sunny day Frizzle heard his parents talking about other dragons. They had hurt other dragons; something Frizzle knew was bad. When he saw how upset his mommy got, he went out into the rose garden to think. Frizzle was only young, but he knew that dragons shouldn't hurt others. He knew that it upset his parents, and he didn't like when that happened. It made him sad to see others hurt and crying. He laid on the ground and watched the ants crawling between the flowers and wondered if they ever hurt each other, and he wondered what would happen now. Trailing little puffs of smoke behind him, he went back into his cave to look for his daddy.
Daddy was standing by the window with his wing wrapped around Frizzle's mommy. Frizzle would see them like this sometimes, but he knew that this time was different. His mommy didn't usually cry this much. Frizzle went to stand between his parents and asked,
"Daddy? Why is Mommy crying?"
Daddy turned to look at Frizzle, and then crouched down where he could drape his wing over the little dragon. "Well son, some other dragons have done a very bad thing. Mommy is crying because some of our friends were very badly hurt."
"Will they get better?"
"No son, they won't. They've gone to the garden of our ancestors."
"Ances...tors? That's the dragons that were alive a long time ago, right?" Frizzle asked.
"That's right."
Frizzle thought for a little bit and then asked, "Can't the healers fix them?"
"No, they can't. They were too badly hurt and their bodies couldn't get better."
Frizzle was sad. He didn't like it when other dragons got hurt. "What will happen to the bad dragons?"
His parents looked at each other sadly and Daddy held Frizzle closer. "Well, I'm not sure yet. But I know that they'll be punished for what they did."
Frizzle thought about the bad dragons, and it made him think about the bullies at his school. "Will they hurt me?"
"No, the grown ups will keep you safe. You don't need to worry; you're safe here. But if you see any strange dragons around here you know to tell Mommy and I, right?"
"I know Daddy." But Frizzle snuggled closer to his parents anyway, just to feel better.
So Frizzle watched the sun set with his mommy and daddy, and felt safe because he knew they would protect him and keep him safe always.
