Wil was born on the 31st January, in a country town, Heyfield VIC, to dairy farmer parents. He studied journalsm at university, and worked at The Australian for a number of years. He decided that this life was not the one for him, and soon turned to comedy. He has written a number of shows including: Diet Life, Who wants to be a Wilionaire?, Willunium, I am the Wilrus, Wil of Fortune and 5-thirty (with Adam Spencer)

He is also known for his appearances on shows such as Good News Week, rove [live], Dot Com TV, Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala, The Fat and Standing Up. He also appeared in a number of commercials advertising the Maxibon ice-cream. He currently co-hosts the Triple J Breakfast show with Adam Spencer, and hosts The Glasshouse on your ABC. His newest stand up show, to be previewed in Sydney in December, and toured to the Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002 has yet another name pun : Wil by Mouth.
