Two minute talk with The Funky Squad stars, Jane Kennedy and Santo Cilauro.
Jane: It's a group of young cops who are brought together in the 70's to fight crime and destruction on the streets of The City. Exactly what city we're not sure. It's definitely not Australia or America, It's just Funky Squad Land. Santo: It's one of those things where we grew up watching all the 70's cop shows... There's plenty of cliché acting, sexism and bad fashion. How did you prepare for the role of Cassie? Jane: I just watched the fine acting skills of Cheryl Ladd and Kate Jackson from Charlie's Angels over the years. There's lots of boob action because it's really sexist, Cassie being the only chick, gets to wear all the great outfits. If Cassie was on Melrose Place who would she play? Jane: She's a real suck, so she'd have to be Courtney-Thorne Smith (Alison). She's love to be Heather (Amanda), but she's a complete dag. Is Stix the Columbo of Karate? Santo: Well he's no Columbo - He doesn't wear an overcoat and doesn't have crossed eyes, but he does do karate. Every time he's asked to pose, he poses in a Karate position. Stix also carries drumsticks around. What's your fave 70's saying? Jane: "Jinx" and um... "Der" Santo: I like the word "ace". I never really got into the 70's. I actually look back on that part of my life and think, "No, that was actually a bad influence on me". So I try and push that out of my mind and head for the 80's. What's your fave item of Funky Squad clothing? Jane: All the jeans I wear are so uncomfortable because the crotch is really long. It goes all the way up to the bellybutton and they're so tight you need a coat hanger to zip them up. Santo: There's this pair of vertically striped jeans that I really like because they actually haven't got too much of a flare. Everyone else is into big flares, but Stix is cooler and sharper. Besides, you can't do a karate kick with big flares because a gust of wind will blow you sideways. |
