Shaun's the boss

At last it's official- comedian Shaun Micallef is the host of this year's 43rd TV WEEK Logie awards.

The announcement that Shaun is to take television's top job ends months of speculation over just who would fill the very large shoes left by Andrew Denton after his two years in the post.

At last year's Logies, Shaun took out the coveted Award for Most Outstanding Comedy Program. This year, he's ringmaster of the entire event.

"I guess this is the way the system works- you win a Logie one year, then you win the entire evnt the next," laughs Shaun

"When they offered me the role as host, I knew I couldn't say no. If I did, I always would have wondered how I would have gone."

Ray Martin, a one-time Logies host, described the job as "the only game in town" Bert Newtn is known as Mr Logies for his 18 times as host. And while Andrew Denton introduced an irreverent and often hilarious tone to the proceedings, he declared at the end of last year's awards, "That's enough for me, I'm done."

But Shaun says he has no plans to follow in anyone else's footsteps with this year's Logies.

"I plan to have some fun and not to play too safe," he says. "There is a fine balance between treating the Logies with the respect they deserve and bringing a touch of irreverence which everyone likes. I hope to get that right."

The 43rd TV Week Logie Awards will screen on the Nine Network on Sunday, April 22.
