DIEPPE SCENARIOYou are free to create most any battle that took place in Europe. You are somewhat restricted to Europe because the building components are based on European terrain. Shown here is my attempt to be a bit inventive and create a "Dieppe Raid", using grain fields for sand, and rivers for ocean. The sea wall was somewhat of a challenge, but with an elevation figure of "5" it worked just fine. Elevation is created using numbers to indicate rises and depressions. Level ground is rated at 7, sea level would be 0, and 19 is the highest setting. Each increment equals 2.5 meters or 5 meters, depending on the parameters set for the map.![]() The scenario creation map shown above gives you a good idea of the steps involved. What you see on the left are the myriad of terrain choices, starting with "Open Ground" (shown hi-lighted). This is followed by marsh, three types of woodland, brush, grainfield, and rough terrain, with water and churches at the end. The second row shows small and large wooden buildings. The third row shows stone buildings and very large "downtown" buildings, and bridges. The fourth row shows a pile of rubble, burning buildings of various sizes, burning forests and grainfields, and more bridges. Below this is an endless selection of dirt road and highway sections through various terrain features, open fields, forested areas, etc. The red downward arrow at the top of this chart takes you to a second screen with many more selections. At the very top you will see "Terrain Mode" for placing terrain components. "Elevation Mode" for placing the elevation numbers that create hills and valleys, etc. Finally, "Zone Mode" which cannot be shown here, but designates the Allied and Axis zones of control. ![]() All of the above components go together to create the very real 3-dimensional view you see here. Once the terrain map has been built you then select your vehicles and troops and place them on the previewed map. Once you are happy with your selections you can save it as a game scenario and play it. At this point you will find things that you missed or don't like, and you can easily take the game back into the scenario building phase again, and change it in any way you choose. |
