The Rover Owners Association of Virginia is the oldest Land Rover club in the United States that has remained in operation. Each Fall it sponsors one of the largest Land Rover gatherings in North America. This year they followed tradition and had a spectacularly soggy weekend - for the third year in a row. Trail conditions were reduced to impassable to all but the most fool hardy by early Friday afternoon. This left most of us to just hang around our camp sites waiting for the rain to stop.
Well, the rain did not stop. In fact, it rained 10 inches in 24 hours. On top of that, it was the coldest MAR that I have experienced. The hanging out in campsites waiting on the rain to stop turned into huddling around portable heaters under make-shift rain tarps trying to keep from freezing to death.
In the end, the fun was running out fast. Most of us had run out of dry clothes. Those of us in tents were wishing we had done a better job at water proofing them. It did not take much for us to make a clear decision on Saturday afternoon to pull up chocks and head for home.
We will try again next year!
