Kagerou   Age: Unknown (Probably around 420 Gender: Female Birthplace: Hokage Village Psychic devices: Shadow Sphere; also knows the time manipulation technique. Element: Shadow (???)

When we first come across Shadow, the first thing you think of is "Aha, here's the bad guy." But as the story progresses, you'll soon find that Shadow, or Kagerou, as she is known, is in reality not as wicked as she seems at first. She is really just training Recca to become stronger by pitting people against him, for she is afraid that he might one day be killed by Kurei.

The shock comes when we find out that Kagerou is actually Recca's mother! 416 (Or is it 415?) years ago, during the era of the war between the Ninjas and the Samurais, Kagerou used the forbidden time manipulation technique to send Recca to the 400 years into the present in hopes that he would be able to live a full, happy life. Because of this, Kagerou is cursed with immortality and had to watch helplessly as her husband, Ohka, and the rest of her family and friends were killed by the samurais while she herself lived. For 400 lonely years she roamed all over the world, waiting for the day when she would be able to find her beloved son. Finally, she did, but her happiness was marred by the fact that she and Recca are not allowed to touch each other as this is one of the side effects of using the forbidden time technique. (I'm not sure if this is so in the manga, since I've read the manga and it seems that at one point she was able to hug him.)

Kagerou is obviously the most mature one of the group, she being the eldest and everything, and is very much loved and respected by the Hokage Team. She is the one who "mother-hens" everyone and gives them advice. An expert on psychic devices, she is also able to recognize almost all the devices that she catches sight of.

Interesting facts:

1) Because she used the time manipulation technique, another side effect is that she never grows older, and therefore still looks like she's in her twenties. (That's why a lot of people are surprised when she tells them her son is already 16 ^_^)
