The American Match Fishing Association was formed in 2006 in order to:
  • Promote and develop the sport of match fishing in the United States.

  • Organize major match fishing events: AMFA League, US Open, US Team Championships, and more.

  • Discuss and develop appropriate rules for major match fishing events.

  • Set guidelines for conduct at events (professional and courteous behavior).
  • Identify and develop fishing venues for major events.
  • Develop new anglers to represent the United States in the future Match Fishing World Championships events (CIPS/FIPS).

Any interested angler is eligible for the AMFA Board. The criteria for joining the AMFA Board is as follows:

Match Fishing Clubs
A match fishing club consisting of at least 10 active members and conducting at least 5 matches/events a year, will elect the following to the board each year:
2 voting representatives, 1 observer

Match Fishing Teams
Anglers who form a 4-person team to participate in the U.S. Team Championships will qualify to send the following representatives to the AMFA Board:
1 voting representative, 1 observer

Thus, there are two viable options for anglers to gain a voice in the AMFA decision-making process.
