She had known that her love was different on his return, but knew not how or why.

He had been sweet and soft, a true gentleman. If she had ever wished it otherwise, for sure she regretted it now.

He had come to her in the early hours of the morning when all decent folk were fast abed, making such a racket that she had no choice but to invite him.

As she cowered from her, she couldn't help but reflect that he had never entered her room before.

Perhaps if he had, he'd have known to beware of the window. Instead he focused all on taking what she was once eager to give.

As the light flooded in, he crumbled to dust and she knew what happened to her love.
