Dear Ryan,

Besides the chest muscles, what other muscles does bench press work?

Dear Jon,

Look at this...I'm writing a "Dear Jon" letter. lol. Sorry Jon, couldn't resist.

Now back to your question. The bench press exercise is an exercise where you lay on your back ,on a bench, and press a weighted bar from your chest towards the ceiling. A staple exercise, for most people, to building the pectoralis major(chest muscles).
There are three main skeletal muscles that are engaged during this exercise: Pectoralis major(chest), anterior deltoid(front shoulder), and the triceps brachii(back of the upper arm). The primary muscle being worked in bench press is the pectoralis major. The secondary muscles or stabilizer muscles, anterior deltoid and triceps brachii, help with balancing and assisting the bar  so the chest can press the bar up to extension.

I hope this answers your question Jon. Thanks for your question.
